My Cervical Cancer Story

Hi I am 26 years old, and was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer almost 4 months ago. I have always had yearly Pap Test and all have been normal...until this past August. My yearly Pap test showed A - Glandular Cells and I was scheduled to have a Colposcopy. During the procedure my GYN found a Cervical Polyp, which she said could have accounted for the weird Pap Test results and that most Polyps are nothing to worry about. That was NOT my case, for the following day my GYN called me and said the polyp came back Moderately Differentiated Adenocarcinoma, and my High-Risk HPV test came back Positive...I began to PANICK!!! What was weird is the biopsy she took of my Cervix came back only Mild Dysplasia with Cervicitis. I was immediately sent for an MRI and a PET CT Scan, and to a GYN-ONC. I had the tests ran and tried to stay positive and calm..YEAH RIGHT. Then the day came to review the tests with my GYN-ONC. To my surprise the PET Scan didn't show hardly anything, maybe alittle area around my Cervix/Uterine Entrance, and my MRI showed about the same...I was relieved and confused. How could my polyp show a more invasive cancer, my biopsy show mild dysplasia, and the tests to not show much either??? WEIRD and my doctor did say I was kind of a rare case, and that he thought the polyp was a very early warning sign. So he said since I wasn't interested in keeping my fertility (i have 2 children) that I should have a Radical Hysterectomy. So I agreed and the surgery was schedule for the next week! My doctor did not want to take my Ovaries unless he had to, and the only way he would was if the cancer was in my Uterus. So we agreed to have a Frozen Pathology ran during my surgery while I was still under Anesthesia, and if it wasn't in my Uterus to leave my OVaries and if it was to take them. The surgery took about 6 hours, and GOOD NEWS...I could keep my Ovaries!! He said they looked great, Pathology showed nothing in Uterus, and just a TINY residual Cancer at my Cervix. I was in the hospital about 1 1/2 days, and off work 8 weeks. On the final pathology, all 34 lymph nodes taken where cancer free, and all surrounding tissues taken were also free, the tumor size couldn't even be determined...b/c it was minute It said it would have been staged at the absolute earliest stage of Cervical Cancer, but b/c of the Polyp showing a more invasive type it was staged at pT1b. If anyone else has had a similiar experience please let me know...I have yet to speak to someone who has had a Cancerous Polyp found.
