Extreme Exhaustion Post-Op 2 1/2 weeks

I had a TVH on 12/15/09.

I have had very little pain outside of the first few days. Everything seems to be going well. I am taking it easy- still not driving, not shopping, not cooking. Overall, I have felt pretty good- minimal spotting- some swelly belly at night. I stopped pain meds after the first week. I probably did a little more than I should have on Christmas Day, but other than that, I have pretty much taken it easy...

However, about every 3rd day I get TOTALLY exhausted- to the point that I spend about 20 hours or so sleeping- it is CRAZY!! I don't ever remember feeling this tired in my whole life- not even when I had a brand new baby to take care of.....

Anybody else experiencing this? Is this a sign that something is wrong?

Thanks for any help...

Re: Extreme Exhaustion Post-Op 2 1/2 weeks

Nothing is wrong. Your body has been through major surgery and it takes time to heal. I'm in week 4 and I still have to take it easy. Today I had to run errands so tomorrow I know I have to rest. I don't go out of the house 2 days in a row. I plan my days that way because I still get tired pretty easily. From what I've read, many ladies feel fatigued for quite some time after surgery. Especially if you're anemic.

Re: Extreme Exhaustion Post-Op 2 1/2 weeks

I was extremely exhausted after my surgery too. In fact at my 3 week checkup I remember tellinng my dr. "I have never been to tired in my entire life" I would take 4-5 hour naps on top of 12 hour night sleeping. It's just our bodies trying to heal from major surgery. Take it easy and rest if your body says too. I felt way better around 6 weeks po. Now at almost 3 months po Im feeling back to my old self again. Lots of energy and diong most everything I normally was before my surgery. Hang in there

Redbird is correct. Your body is still recovering from a major surgery. Remember, you just had one of your major organs removed. It will take some time. Docs aren't kidding when they say 6-8 weeks recovery. Cut yourself some slack, (I'll follow my own advice and do the same) and let yourself rest!

Happy New Year!
