I don't know what to do anymore

I'm 4 weeks post-op and I'm very discouraged. Every morning I wake up feeling nauseaous. I have to use milk of magnesia to go to the bathroom because if I don't I get stopped up and have intense cramps. I've talked to my doctor about this problem and she readjusted my hormone level but I have to wait two weeks before I contact her. She wants to give my body time to adjust to the change. Meanwhile I feel terrible. I'm at a lost as to what to do. I went into the emergency room a while ago because the consulting nurse said I might have a kidney infection (my back was killing me). I wouldn't have gone except that I didn't know what to expect my body to do after the surgery. It turned out that I'd just strained my back getting out of bed. I felt very foolish. I've called the consulting nurse about my nausea and again she wants me to go to the emergency room. Now when I email my doctor he says I'm seriously constipated so I should take the milk of magnesia. That was thee days ago. I've had diaraha the two day that I took it. I felt better after going but now its the third day and I still feel bad. So again I had to take it. I went but I still feel bad. I've stoped taking pain meds so thats not the problem. I've also increased my water consumption to make up for the loss of water due to my diaraha. It seems like my body is extreamly sensitive to things high in fiber, and any substince designed to help produce a bowl movement. I'm at a loss as to what to do. If I call the nurse she will just say to go to the emergency room again and if I go to the emergency room they will tell me that I should wait for the two weeks as my doctor requested (thats what they said the last time I went in). I honestly feel like I'm loosing my mind. I know I could handle my recovery so much better if I didn't feel sick all the time. Sometime I feel like I would have been better if I had left things as they were before the surgery. I cry almost every morning because I feel so sick.

Re: I don't know what to do anymore

Hi sleepingjane, I am 4 weeks post op too and very similar to you. The NAUSEA is soooo intense. I am pretty sure it is from the hormone replacement. I am trying different things for the nausea. So far the only thing that eases it a bit is OTC zantac or (generic famotidine).

Re: I don't know what to do anymore

Dear sleepingjane:

Perhaps your body isn't liking the milk of magnesia? Does the doctor have any other ideas for natural diet that can help you?

I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs

Re: I don't know what to do anymore

You know maybe it is my diet. I've been feeling very bloated so I assumed I was still constipated. I was told after my surgery that one overie was larger than a grapefruit, the other one was attaching itself to my kidney and my uterous was blocking my bowels. I just wish I knew was going on. I've been told by several people that I should be feeling so much better and I feel like I'm abnormal for not being as well as everyone says I should be. I know that the only time I feel a little better is when I'm able to go. The only reason I'm so scared is because I was nauseous prior to surgery and I'm still nauseous. It's so nice to know that I'm not alone and that other women have had nausea even 4 weeks post-op. On the other side maybe it is my body adjusting to the change in hormones. Before the surgery my body was pumping out too much testosterone. Maybe it will take a while for everything to get back to normal. I'll have to try zantac and see if it helps. I've been keeping a food log so I'm hoping my doctor can shead so light on the situation.

Re: I don't know what to do anymore

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. I too had bad constipation and my family doc and gastro doc recommended Miralax. It is a very gentle laxative. It is sold over the counter. You may want to give it a try. It has really helped me. The milk of magnesia was too hard on me.Call your doc office if you want to confirm this. They are there to help you so don't feel bad calling them. As far as going to the ER, don't feel foolish. You were in pain and what if it was more than a strained muscle. I hope you feel better and keep us posted.

Re: I don't know what to do anymore

Having constipation/diarrhea/nausea could possibly be a blockage. But since your gyn. doctor wasn't concerned about that,t hen I'm not too sure that would be it. Have you thought about seeing a GI specialist about it?

Re: I don't know what to do anymore

I didn't think the nausea was ever going to go away. I am almost 7 wks, and it just went away maybe last wk. I do know that they had to give me tons of anethesia. I just figured that was it. I have IBS also, and have been having tons of trouble w/ it.
Mirlax, is great! My 10 yr old was on it for about 2-3 yrs, he never complained of cramps or stomach issues w/ it. It works differently than other lax. It pulles moisture from your intestines and works that way. I would see a GI specialist also. Keep pushing the docs. It is awful to feel the way you do, affects your whole life. I am wishing you find the answers soon and get feeling better.

Re: I don't know what to do anymore

Hi Sleepingjane,

I thought the nausea would never go either. I couldn't eat because of it although I was starving; and I vomited alot. Some of this I know was stress, but mostly I think it was the HRT. I had a horrible indigestion feeling with it too.
I had nausea prior to surgery as well (although that disappeared the week before my op).
Anyway the sickness suddenly went away. It does drive you nuts when you feel sick all the time, but I really think that in the coming weeks/months your nausea will suddenly disappear like mine did. I'm praying you get relief from it as soon as possible.
