Thanks to all of you, I have a better doc, great hospital, and maybe robotic surgery!

Hi All,

It's been a long time since I posted, and I want to thank everyone again for the information, advice and support.

( For some reason in the beginning I had emails when someone logged into my thread, but now I haven't received any to prompt me. Is there something I should do to activate that?)

Linda, Thanks so much for the information about your robotic procedure. I find out tomorrow if the insurance approved my gyn/onc's request for the davinci.

Well, it's been almost a month since I have been on this thread. As a result of all of the recommendations I received, I have been on a medical/insurance, paperwork, administrative journey to get
1) a second opinion at a teaching hospital in Irvine
2) My PCP to recommend that I have my TAH or robotic done with a gyn/onc.
3) An appointment at Cedars/Sinai in Los Angeles with a WONDERFUL gyn/onc who put me at great ease after problems arose in my perceptions and experiences with my gyn.
4) A scheduled surgery for this Wednesday, 1/04/ooops,2010!!!
5)Appointment with doc tomorrow for physical, results of requested bloodwork, chest xray, and EKG as well as "committee" decision about approving the da vinci (Please keep your fingers crossed...
My gyn/onc was the first one to do the da vinci at Cedars/Sanai. I can't tell you all, although you probably already know, how different it is to have a doctor doing the procedure that you feel comfortable, no, good about!

So, if all goes well, I will be getting the robotic on Wednesday.

I am so releived that I won't have this done with my gyn, who essentially lied in my medical records to cover himself. Ychhhh! The gyn/onc at Cedars even said he was uncomfortable with what he wrote.

That's another story, and wow, it feels like this whole thing since November 13 has been one long journey.

My husband is super supportive, as well as friends, and I am feeling good about this. Sometimes I think I am in denial, as I feel so good. But, actually, I beleive it's an intuitive relief that I will be in a good hospital with a wonderful doctor.

Everything that was suggested was so helpful and gave me the courage to ask for a second opinion, investigate options, which resulted in what I believe will be an entirely different experience for me.

Well, I can't thank you all enough. I hope to have some time in the two weeks I am off to post more, and keep up with the threads.

I read that someone had an antibacterial shower. Could you tell me what that is?

I am taking magnesium citrate the day before, but that's the only prep I was told to do, plus fasting from food, and then, liquids.

Also, if you can assist me with getting the responses back to my email, I would appreciate it.

I will keep up with my posts after the surgery. I take you all with me on this journey and am forever grateful for your wisdom and presence.

3 days away......

In warm gratitude,

Ann

Just wanted to wish you well for your surgery and recovery. I am so glad that you got that second opinion!!!

Re the notifications, there is a space below when you create a thread or reply to a thread called Additional Options where you either check email notification or not. If this does not help, there is a Tech Help forum.

All the best for your surgery!!!!!

Re: Thanks to all of you, I have a better doc, great hospital, and maybe robotic surg

dear ann...what a lovely post you wrote and i'm happy you found the knowledge and the courage to seek further options. you were asking about the anti-bacterial shower: i was given a bottle of this liquid antibiotic soap (red in colour) to wash up with in the shower the night before my surgery (or was it the day of?).

wishing you all the best on your journey and we would love to hear how you make out. take care.:xmashug4:

That's such great news!

This site and all these ladies are such a wonderful resource! I had the Davinci a year and a half ago and I was incredibly grateful to have found out about the procedure and discovered a doctor here in Houston who was experienced with it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you are approved. Good luck tomorrow, whichever procedure you end up having!
