Easy one

Hi Sisters,
I had the easyest hysterectomy you can get, my uterus was so prolapsed, that the surgen just snipped it and my cervics away. That was it. I was out of the castle the next morning. No rebulding, repairs, insisions, fibroids, tumors, nothing. I havn't seen another post simular to my surgery. I think, because my surgery was so easy, compared to all of yours, that I should be able to be totally back to normal by now, I am 5 weeks post op and I still have a lot of presure in my lower abdomain and back. I have resumed all my duties of the farm but I suffer every night for it. Most nights I can't even sleep because I am so uncomfortable. My Doc. said I could go back to working in the barn a week ago. He also said he didn't do anything that would make me be in any pain. I am so frustrated. I will forever be simpathetic to anyone who has any kind of surgery!
Thanks,
Ponygal

barn work

Hi
I grew up on a farm and rode horses all my life and my mother still has horses so I know how hard the work is. I had a hysterectomy in July and mine went really well too but I still get twinges and pulls and I am not working in the barn. I don't think your doctor really knows what your situation was, they don't seem to ask. I really think by what I have read that you are doing way too much. They say if you are sore at the end of the day especially like yourself that you are overdoing it. As everyone says it actually takes 6 months to a year to recover and I sure believe it. Please try and rest more and you will feel much better by the end of the day. Do you have horses?
Hope you feel better real soon.

Lynn

Hi Ponygal, I'm not sure what to say, other than maybe you should get a second opinion regarding your recovery. I'm glad that you had an easy surgery, but it isn't just a matter of snip, snip, you're done! There are still internal stitches where your uterus and cervix used to be.

I've never worked on a farm, but I'm sure that there is a lot of heavy lifting involved and physical activity. Your body is telling you that you're doing too much. You still need , feet up. Please take it easy and don't push yourself too hard. Try and gradually resume your normal activities and listen to your body.

Let us know how you're doing. 's

Ponygal,

I've very glad your surgery went so well, in terms of the actual operation, but a hysterectomy is still major surgery, no matter how easy or difficult it is to remove your uterus. You need to rest, girl -- rest, rest, rest! You are still so early in your recovery -- it takes a good 6-8 weeks just to be out of the "fragile" stage, and then another good 6-8 months to be totally healed.

The body is an amazing thing ... it talks ... it tells us when we're pushing it to far. And yours is screaming at you -- please listen to it. I think it's great that you want to move -- walking in moderation is wonderful ... but you're doing way too much ... and lifting anything more than 5 pounds the first six weeks is a definite NO-NO.

You only have one chance to heal properly -- why not give you body the best chance to do that?

Please take care of yourself and let us know how you're doing.
