Two months post-op - recovery concerns

I think it would be nice to share info with sisters who have had a hysterectomy around the same date.
I had a radical hysterectomy/BSO w/lymphnode dissection for AIS cervical cancer - stage ll. - no residual cancer - no further treatment needed. I was in the hospital for 5 daysand sent home with catheter for 2 weeks. My gyn/onc also thinned the wall of my bladder. I am 10 weeks post -op
and am feeling better.
I can't sleep at night and had a few setbacks since surgery. Can' stand the swelly belly - When will it go away? Have bladder spasms and pressure in lower abdomin. It would be nice to get some input from sisters with similar hysterectomy dates.

Re: ANYONE HAVE HYSTERECTOMY DATE OCT. 30,2009 - Recovering

Hi,

There is already a thread for the women who share your surgery date week (Oct. 26 - Nov. 1) and you can find it here. Once you post a message, it will bump the thread back to the top.

Re: ANYONE HAVE HYSTERECTOMY DATE OCT. 30,2009 - Recovering

Hi ((dshadow)), My hyst (SAH BSO horizontal abdominal incision) was on October 26th. I guess I somehow missed keeping up with the thread for our surgery dates so it's good to find someone at the same stage of recovery.

Funny you say you're having trouble sleeping - this recently started for me - I cannot sleep through without multiple awakenings. I wake up in the morning trying to figure out when I can get a nap in. This is new. Trying to figure out why - perhaps the lack of hormones is catching up with me? Other than a few hot flashes, I haven't had many troubling menopausal symtoms.

And yes, the ****ed swelly belly - when will it end?!! I'm fairly thin and all I see when I look at myself is this pouffy little pouch - ugh! From what other women have reported, it seems it can take several months to subside so there is still hope!

I'm glad to compare notes so feel free to stay in touch on this thread.
Be well.

Re: ANYONE HAVE HYSTERECTOMY DATE OCT. 30,2009 - Recovering

I haven't been able to sleep more than 2 hours a night since surgery and it is really starting to bother me. Thank god I don't have to get up and go to work but I do have to take care of my Mom who is 80 with dimensia (they are worse than taking care of a little kid) ,but I am very patient with her and have to bite my tongue sometimes because i know she can't help herself (she can just get so nasty one minute and sweet as pie the next). She doesn't even understand what I went through the last 3 months , just that I didn't feel well She wouldn't know what I was talking about if I told her and she would forget. It has been hard my dad past away 5 years ago and it seems like she went too, I no longer have her to confide in (sometimes she doesn't even know who I am, some nice girl I am) I do have my best friend who works as a medical asst. in a Doctors office , she is always here for me and I for her.

Re: ANYONE HAVE HYSTERECTOMY DATE OCT. 30,2009 - Recovering

Sorry to hear about your mom. It's hard to take the time to recover yourself, I'm sure, when you're looking after someone who has so many needs. She's lucky to have you.

Are you not sleeping at night because your mom is awake? Do you have access to some of the respite services that cater specifically to the memory impaired? Perhaps that might give you some relief, if only a few hours a week.

I help care for my in-laws, both elderly, one with Parkinson's disease and the other bladder cancer. Thankfully, my mom is relatvely healthy and has a live in partner. My in-laws need more help and pretty much rely on me. They do not live with us, but I can certainly understand the strain that caring for someone 24/7 puts on you.

This site and the women who share on it have been a wonderful resource - what a great help it's been through my recovery. I can't say "thank you" enough!
