post -op 7 weeks still have lots of pain

Hi, I am new to this site and so happy to have found it!!
I had a complete hysterectomy and still have lots of sharp pain in abdominal area.
Lots of pain in lower and upper abdomen with sharp pain..not sure if hernia or infection...no fever!
What to do?
and experiencing the whole menopausal symptoms and not sure of where to go from here. I know I don't want hormones but what can I do ???

Lots of sharp pain still at this point could be something to discuss with your doc.

As far as alternatives to hormones, there is an excellent thread by katherine, this site's "information keeper" that is very interesting about hormones: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...d.php?t=347895

There are also a lot of women who have good success for relief from symptoms with antidepressants like Effexor and others. I just mention effexor because i know it is one that does not cause added nervousness or sexual side effects usually. But talk to your doc. about it.

Hang in there,

I'm off to the hospital for a check up today. 3 weeks post op and started bleeding and in pain. I'm lucky to have the number of my surgeon so I rang him and he told me to come in. Even if he just puts my mind at rest I'll be happy.

Will keep you posted

Re: post -op 7 weeks still have lots of pain

I am 5 weeks post-op, and finally feeling ok enough to go all over the house, up and down stairs, do laundry, walk in the cityk but what I am finding is--when I stand up sometimes I get a sharp shooting pain go down my back to my buttocks-that sometimes happened when my fibroids were laying on a nerve, but they are obviously gone now. Anyone else with this?
My belly is still very swollen and big.
I'm hoping I didnt do too much too soonl! thank you for all the support, this site is so valuable. all my best, cherry creeik

Back from hospital, I have an infection, been given antibiotics and painkillers. He told me I'd definately done the right thing by getting in touch. The pain is coming from the infection swelling.
Glad I went, so anyone with unexplained pain, make a call if you can, to the hospital

Re: post -op 7 weeks still have lots of pain

Same date as you. I started to feel good around week five and then started to do a bit more. Prior to that I didn't do much but really want to do more. I made the mistake of ironing a pair of curains and have felt really bad since then. I have a lot of down below pressure just like I did with fibroids but without the need to go to the toilet all of the time. I am a bid fed up as I thought I would feel so much better after 6 weeks.
