Any help or support would be appreciated

I had an abdominal hysterectom on 12/2/09 and did well post op until week 4 my incision dehisced and 2 days before christmas they reopened my incision. I had to pack it 3x a day for a few weeks, now down to once a day. Now they are talking about a wound vac, etc. I am so frustrated and feeling like i will never get back to normal. I am at 6 weeks from the original surgery and should be heading back to work, but now im down for another 4-5 weeks. Anyone with any positive stories relating to this would be helpful. Thanks ladies!

Re: Any help or support would be appreciated

Hi - I had a TAH 2 days after you on 4th Dec. Around the 4.5 week mark my incision started to bleed and seemed infected. Put on antibiotics. Had "doctor" DH check it today - I can't see it at all because of this enormous swelly belly I have, even in the mirror - and he said it looked much better than the last time he looked. Not nearly as serious as yours but I was still given extended medical certificate for work and university until the end of the month. I do relate to your sense of frustration and despair and hopefully you will soon be back on track. Today I have had a big day out and coped with all the stairs, and hills, and buses I have been on, which this time last week seemed far away achievements. I have read another post somewhere on the site where another lady was also having to pack her incision. Hugs and I hope you start to feel much better soon.

Thanks so much. I still have the swelly belly too, wondering when it will leave. I have the okay to drive and that was definitely an achievement after being cooped up for over a month. Im trying to be positive but some days its hard. I already so regret the surgery choice i made, wondering if i will ever get back to normal...i will keep my fingers crossed.

Lmadsen, do a search on wound vac within the site. Some amazing women had serious incision problems, and successfully got through it "to the otherside" of healing. Don't worry, normal is out there!!!

Much hugs!

I feel so bad for you. I pray you will get better soon. I am also having problems, I was rushed into the ER 2 times since my surgery 1 time for such bad pain and the other with bad chest pain and my blood pressure went sky rocket, they were giving me nitro pills and that seemed to work, then my blood work showed that I could be possitive on having a blood clot some where, they looked at my lungs and had a ultra sound of my calfs but they did not find the blood clot not find the blood clot no where. I"m praying that the test was not right. I'm still also having problems and my surgery was done back on the 9th of December09.
I am so happy to have found this board. I had a TAH done everything was removed from me and I had 38 staples out side and my doc said over 200 inside. That is scary also because I have passed some of the inside stitches when going to the bathroom.
But I am trying to feel positive about this and I will get better I pray soon. I'm now on blood pressure pills, anxiety meds Zanex, and now my doc gave me the nitro pills incase my heart starts to hurt again. But I am starting to think it has more to do with so much laying around and not being able to do nothing so I started yesterday to walk atleast 300 steps a day and I'm going to keep doing more and more each day.
My doc told me in the beginning before my surgery it was going to be ok, then after the surgery they tell you well you just had major surgery ( Wow really). I do hope you get better soon I hope all of us gets better soon.
