C-Sec Scar & TAH Scar on top?

Hopefully someone here might know the answer to this one. I had a Caesarian Section 15 years ago with a bikini line incision. The scar is quite hard and deep (it's indented, seems to be attached, whereas the skin above & below the scar is puffy due to the fat under the skin)

I am booked for an abdominal hysterectomy & my surgeon plans on another bikini line incision, so I am curious if it will be above or below my existing scar; or if the scar tissue that is there now will be removed altogether and I'll still only have one visible scar?

I never thought to ask him at the time about this.

I already have a LOT of problems with ingrown hairs in the scar I already have, so I'm hoping I don't have to deal with this X2!

Any ideas ladies?

Re: C-Sec Scar & TAH Scar on top?

I had a c section 21 yrs ago That incision is way low on pelvic bone. My Hyster scar done 5 weeks ago is about an inch above. Im not sure if they can use the same scar I think it has to be up higher to get to where they need to be.

Re: C-Sec Scar & TAH Scar on top?

I had two c-sections, a TAH and an abdominal vvf repair and the surgeons used my original c-section bikini scar each time. I have what looks like my original scar, it is just a bit more raised but is slowly becoming thinner with the nightly massage of tissue oil into the area. However, my skin is numb for about 2 inches above the scar, I can feel pressure but thats all.

Re: C-Sec Scar & TAH Scar on top?

I had surgery 19 years ago to remove an ovary. My TAH was in December. My doctor went through my old incision, remove some old scar tissue, and stapled me back together. The new scar is larger but not too bad.

Re: C-Sec Scar & TAH Scar on top?

I worked in the OR, and they usually try to remove the old scar when going back in the same area. In some cases they may not be able to, but especially if there is scar tissue and it could be causing pain, they remove it and put in a new suture line. I would ask your doctor if he plans on removing your original scar? If I end up having the TAH I was told he would go through my old scar especially because they think my bladder has been tacked to it.

Re: C-Sec Scar & TAH Scar on top?

I have had 3 c-sections, the last 13 years ago, and in late October, a hyst (SAH BSO). All my incisions were low bikini. In each case the surgeon removed the previous scar, so all I have is one long low bikini scar.

Good luck and keep asking questions!

Yep, same here, had a c-section with bikini cut in 1999, my surgeon 2 weeks ago used the same location. Mine was also very deep, now is slightly less impressed, I hope it doesn't go indented like the last one.

My dr is going to use the same incision site (he also performed my last c-section). I don't know if they take the old scar tissue out, but I hope they do, because mine feels hard and deep like you explained.
