OUCH! The hip pain!

I am 3 days post op TVH, BSO, AP repair, and sling. My doctor told me my hips might be a little sore because of the position they put me in for surgery (legs straight up in the air and bent at the hips). Wow! I so did not expect this kind of pain, and I believe I have a high threshhold of pain. I read a lot of things ahead of time and work in the medical field, but never saw or read anything about the possibility of this. The pain didn't really hit me until I got home from the hospital late yesterday afternoon. Last night was horrible. It hurts to sit to pee -- not hurt to pee -- just to sit on the toilet. I have fibromyalgia so that is aggravating the pain I am sure. I am using a heating pad (although I need a couple more so I have one for each hip and my back all at the same time). I am on Vicodin and taking it like I'm supposed to, and it numbs the pain for about 4 hours if I take 2 at a time, but can't take more than 8 in 24 hours so have to be careful. Can't take ibuprofen because it makes me swell. Anyone have any suggestions or experienced this kind of pain? Other than this and feeling like I have an episiotomy I don't feel bad. I know I'll feel better when my hips quit hurting (and groin muscles as well), but any suggestions in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

Re: OUCH! The hip pain!

I had similar, really severe hip/groin pain. I found out just a few months ago that I have Rheumatoid arthritis, particularly there. It was sorely aggravated by the surgical position, just as you mentioned. I know it's not the same as FM, but mine got better in a few days. Heat is definitely good, and even though it hurt more at first, gentle walking seemed to help for a little while. Good luck, and hang in there!
