How many prunes

Don't want to overdo it and have never eaten a prune in my life. How many will get things moving?

Re: How many prunes

I don't care for prunes at all, so I opted for oatmeal with raisins every morning, along with lots of water throughout the day. It took a few days for everything to get going, and even then, I kept up my oatmeal and water regimen for a few more days.

Re: How many prunes

(((dontwantto))) I like prunes and also enjoy prune juice. My preference, and what worked for me during my recovery, was a glass of warm prune juice. I'd say 8 ounces, twice a day would do it. I microwaved it, and I think it tastes better that way.

If you want to try eating whole prunes, I'd have 3 or 4 a couple of times a day for a few days and see how it goes.

Also, did you know that figs have more grams of fiber per 100 gram serving than prunes do? That might be an option for those who really don't like prunes.

Re: How many prunes

I'm 16 days post op! LAVH, kept ovaries. I actually LIKE prunes! I tried eating them every morning and night for the first few days. Then I added one stool softner at night. NOW each morning I start my day with a glass of 4oz prune juice with 2-3 ounces apple juice! I use a straw and plug my nose and slurp it down! It's a visual thing for me...it's just kinda gross looking at 6am! Then I drink a glass of water and have my morning cup of coffee! It works for me every morning! I hope you begin to feel a little better each day! Good luck!!!

Re: How many prunes

There are about two grams of fiber in three prunes, if that helps. I think three to five would be considered a serving.

Re: How many prunes

Hi Ladies,

So... do you think prune juice will work as well as a whole (or several) prune? I'm thinking I should have asked DH to get whole prunes instead of juice. I finally had my first bm today post-op but it was no joy (but thank goodness THAT'S over!) and I'd been taking stool softeners. They didn't work. Nothing about this was soft. So I'm hoping prune juice will work better than the pills (?).

Re: How many prunes

Ask your doctor about milk of magnesia. I had the same problems and only had to take one dose of milk of mag. Everything has been normal since then. But again, check with your doctor. Shirl

Re: How many prunes

Thanks for the advice. First bm this morning. Painful and exhausting. Name of stool softener please. I'll send my DH out to get some.
