Fibroid that hid from the ultrasound

I am on day 4 post op and just thought I would ask if any of you had the same situation as I did. I was told I had 3 fibroids inside the uterine wall and they were all on the front of the uterus. Around December 22 I started having low back pain and my gyn said that it was possible one of these was putting pressure on my spine. Well when they did my hyst on the 13th, the turned my uterus over and on the back side there was a large pedunculated (sp) fibroid that was not detected on the ultrasound. My doc now believes this was the culprit for my low back pain. I was just wondering how many others had "hidden" fibroids that were discovered during surgery?

Re: Fibroid that hid from the ultrasound

Tracy,

I was told I had two fibroids about 5cm each. I was also experiencing pretty bad low back pain. My surgery was 12/18 and my path report showed that my uterus was over 50% full of fibroids ranging from .4 to 5cm...so...apparently they are sneaky little suckers. I was starting to wonder after reading how large some of the other sisters fibroids are that mine could be causing so much trouble with bleeding, pain, etc...but, apparently, it was just the tip of the ice berg!

Hope you are healing well and feeling better each day!
Best to you!
Colleen

WOW I guess they are sneaky little suckers! Maybe they just looked combined in the ultrasound huh? I wonder how mine hid since it was 5 cm and was pedunculated but who knows? My gyn said that little bugger was also causing my bowel issues.

Re: Fibroid that hid from the ultrasound

I had two bonus fibroids discovered during surgery. I had multiple vaginal ultrasounds and also a CT scan that did not identify the two bonus fibroids. I am guessing these may be the two that had been previously called ovarian cysts... and have since magically disappeared. I guess the important thing is that they are gone now.

Man when you think about it, I guess we are lucky they didn't miss something else. I guess even with new technology, it isn't fool proof.
