Finally appt. to see specialist in hormones

After trying so many hrts and not having any luck I am finally seeing a specialist tomorrow who deals with women's hormones. I was on the waiting list for 10 months before getting the appt.
I'm on estrogel at the moment and still not doing great. Course it doesn't help when I've had thyroid troubles this past year too. I feel like this dr. is my last hope so hopefully he can help get feeling normal again.
Wish me luck.

Re: Finally appt. to see specialist in hormones

I finally went to see a specialist too in September 2009. I had to wait 6 weeks for an appointment but it was worth it. My blood tests came back all low and I was found to be hypothyroid as well. I have been using compounded creams, troches and Armour Thyroid and, although it didn't happen overnight, I feel so much better. I had my labs done to see how things are after 8 weeks and Dr. is pleased with the levels. If you go to someone who really knows hormones and is interested in helping, you should be on your way to feeling better. Please post your progress for us to read!

Re: Finally appt. to see specialist in hormones

Well appt with the specialist went really well. He was very nice, very knowledgeable and what he said made alot of sense.
Anyway he gave me a RX for natural progestrone cream and Estriol vaginal cream to use for the first two months. He also sent me for blood tests to check thyroid(which I am already being treated for hypo), my female hormones, as well as adernal levels, Vit. D and others as well. Eventually he said I'd be put on Bi-est but this is what I'm starting with.
He said my side effects from the estrogel and other estrogens I've tried over the years is because I am getting too much. Drug companies only make hrt in certain doses and no one size fits all, which we all know. But he has given me hope that we can get things sorted out and have me feeling better. I have my fingers crossed.
He said that in his treatment he's not trying to get my hormone levels way up high but just high enough to stop the symptoms of menopause, which makes sense to me.
I will keep everyone posted on how it goes.
