Doc says No to Hrt, need help

I my hysterectomy the May 7th. because I had compelx hyperplasia with atypia. Everything went great and I was back to work in 3 weeks. one month after my surgery I started swelling. My allergiest says I have angioedema caused by the surgery. I went to the dr. last week and was hoping to get on HRT but was told I couldn't. He wouldn't even test me and said no HRT> He gave me Paxil for my night sweats of which I am not taking because that is only one of my problem. I also have fuzzy brain, memory loss, blurred vision and many more. Is it true that we can't take anything. I want me back. What about bioidentical. I have been searching the web hoping to find answers . :

Re: Moody, depressed and many symptoms, no hrt

Hi Kigi!

Just a thought, but did your doctor check your thyroid function by doing a blood test? It might be worth checking into....
My symptoms were a little different but one of the sisters highly recommended 20 minutes of excercise a day and she is right. I walk, get on the eliptical trainer, or do a christian version of yoga 5-6 times a week and it really has helped with a lot of the symptoms. I also take a lot of vitamins...a multi-vitamin, calcium, vitamin D, and CO Q10.
Hope you find some answers soon! Keep us posted.

Re: Doc says No to Hrt, need help

kigi -

You could talk to one of your other Dr's about prescribing something. My gyn / onc didn't want me on hrt but I was having some quality of life issues (vaginal atrophy, low libido). He sent me to a uro-gyn and she recommended some vaginal estrogen (estrace) and some testosterone (low % compound). We talked to my gyn-onc about it and he was okay with that. He definitely didn't want me doing anything via patch or orally.

My GP flat out said he wouldn't do any hormone stuff because not his area of expertise.

I did end up on an anti-depressant for clinical depression and that did help immensely with the night sweats.

You can contact ZRT Labs - saliva testing and it will give you your hormone levels. If you are in need to progesterone, estrogen, testosterone etc. it will let you know. You can then take to your doctor for review or through a compound pharmacist get the help you need. Natural bio identical hormones seem to be the better route.
