My surgery for today got cancelled!!!!

I have been incredibly anxious and nervous for several weeks waiting for this surgery and now it's cancelled because the assistant surgeon broke her shoulder! Not only that but my surgeon is prgnant to the max and doesn't feel safe performing the surgery by herself b/c of it... I am soooo frustrated! I had to get some ambien b/c I wasn't sleeping at all. Now she wants me to get another shot of lupron (which I dread) and start Prempro, but I've read prempro is dangerous b/c of it's link to breast cancer. AAAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!! My mom flew all the way up from another state to help out and spent money on a hotel. This is incredibly aggravating. My nerves were already on edge and even worse noW!!!!

Oh my gosh... that really sucks big-time (to put it nicely). I don't blame you for being aggravated at all. To have it scheduled for so long and then cancelled for someone else's injury? Will your Dr. be unavailable after this due to her pregnancy.... How long are you going to have to wait now? Isn't there another Dr. in her practice (that you trust) who CAN do the surgery with their asst. surgeon - or another asst surgeon who's available to assist your own dr? I'm so sorry you have to deal with this - unbelievable. I hope you don't take on added stress from the part about your mom flying out - who whould have thought THIS was going to happen - it's so not your fault. I hope she's understanding about that. I'm so sorry....

Thanks for the response mzumwalt. I can't even tell you how stressed out I've been but just had been pushing it aside b/c I was looking forward to the surgery. Now, my nerves are about to explode! I feel particularly bad about my mom coming all the way up here and taking time out. I haven't heard from the surgical scheduler yet. Apparently, lots of people are aware of my situation and how long I've already had to wait, so hopefully someone will step up to do the surgery.

I would have to agree that really sucks! I can't imagine all the waiting to have it be canceled. UGH!! I hope you have some options. I agree, I wouldn't be too quick to take the hormones. Maybe your surgeon can pull some strings and get an associate to take you and do the surgery sooner?? It's worth asking if you feel comfortable with the another surgeon. I'm so sorry and I'll say a prayer for you.

I told the surgical scheduler that if she called me on the same day I'd go. Apparently, she's calling every surgeon under the sun to help out. A lot of surgeons don't agree with giving me the surgery because of my age. Which sucks! I don't want to suffer for another 30 years like this!!! If I were even a few years older I wouldn't have had the hassle that I've had. I can't tell you how much work it took to get the approval for this surgery from insurance! Now I'm afraid I won't be approved for who ever else does it. I had been seeing my surgeon since June last year to jump through the fire hoops to get to this surgery! I've had diagnostic laparoscopies and been injected with Lupron and anything you can think of! I just left a message for the clinic therapist. Hopefully she can console me a bit, while my mom is sitting at a hotel across town! I do appreciat all the support on this site. Thank you so much for responding to this post

Your still on my mind - want you to know that I'm a praying woman. I just said a very genuine and heartfelt prayer that someone who is highly qualified would step up to do this surgery for you ASAP. Huge HUGS to you.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this stressful situation!

Besides having your doctor's office call around, have you considered calling some of the endo specialists in your area to see if you can see one of them and if one of them could work you in? Since you have endo, having surgery with one of them could offer the best long term solution since a hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis.

I am so sorry your surgery got canceled. That is my biggest fear. So much work and preparation go into this from a mental and life perspective that it is not easy to just say "sorry try again". Hang in there I am sure they will find you another surgeon.
