Incision and lower abdomen firmness

Hi Ladies,

I am 3 weeks post op from TAH/LSO bikini cut and my incision has been hard since the op. The incision seems to be getting a little softer but not much. Is this scar tissue? My main concern is the firmness/hardening right above the incision that goes all the way up to my belly button area. It's mainly on both sides and directly above the incision(ovary area?) I am still a little larger in that area than normal, but it's not "jiggly" like it was when I had the c-section. I am just wondering if this is normal?

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

I have much smaller incisions because of the type of surgeries I have had, but those incisions can be hard. I did have a physical therapist at one point massage them and break them up a bit.

Have you checked with your doctor about what you are feeling? S/he may have some suggestions for you.

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

I had a TAH on December 9th. I also had the hardening above and below the incision along with a hard knot on both sides in the ovary area. It has been 7 weeks and I noticed that it seems to be getting softer along the incision. However, I still have a knot around the area of my left ovary. My doctor told me it was nothing to worry about but didn't explain what it was. I didn't have this after my C Section either. I thought maybe it had to do with the scar tissue.

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

I am thankful that you posted this as I have been worried about hardening on the right side of my incision and it feels like a huge lump along my incision line. I thought maybe i had ripped something. I will ask my doc about it. My guess is scar tissue but as a woman no lump is a good lump. best of luck to you.

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

Thanks ladies! I am 4 weeks now and there hasn't been any improvement in the firmness above my incision or the hardness of incision itself. I will ask my doctor about it at my 6 week follow up. I'm hoping it improves. I don't want to be lumpy and hard!!

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

Hi Ellie7,

Did this issue resolve itself for you? I was hoping my belly was back to normal. But now I am having the exact symptoms you described at the beginning of this thread.

Hope your healing is going great! Thanks in advance!

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

I too am glad to see this. I am 9 weeks out, and can feel a hardness at my incision site. I'm not overly alarmed, and will be in to see the doc in early May and will ask about it then. But I am curious to see who else is experiencing the same thing and if they figured out what it is.

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

Hi all, I am 2 wks post op from a SAH (kept cervix and ovaries), my tummy is still "numb" feeling , the scar is healing nicely with areas of tenderness/hardness. How long does it take for the belly to feel normal again?

Re: Incision and lower abdomen firmness

7 weeks post op from my TAH/RSO bikini cut and some of the firmness has resolved. There is still some hardening along the incision line and a slight "lump" along the left side(just above incision) but they seem to be lessening. I mentioned this to the Doctor at my 6 week follow up and she told me this should resolve with time. It is called a fascia(sp?). I still have some numbness as well, but that is also improving. I was told to give it time, and as long as the "lump" area didn't hurt that I shouldn't worry. Easier said than done though.
