Re: anyone else really happy?

Chalk me up as another one who is enjoying her hysterectomy!! I've had a good recovery (well other than continuing to suffer hot flashes), and it's so nice not to have all the horrible menstrual problems I had. I also had a TVT at the same time, and not smelling of urine anymore is FATASTIC!!! The first day I sneezed and didn't have to go change clothes, i sat there and cried!!!

Re: anyone else really happy?

On top of the previously mentioned benefits, I'm sleeping through the night for the first time in years, thanks to having my oversized uterus off of my bladder.

Re: anyone else really happy?

Hi! Yes!! I TOTALLY agree! Even though I am only a few days past my surgery and still very much at the beginning of my recovery, I am VERY happy with my decision and have no regrets! So far, my recovery hasn't been that bad. I have always felt much worse during my period!

I'm only 32 and I've never had any children of my own, but that was not too much of a concern for me. I had already planned on adopting at least one - there are over 350,000 homeless children in the US alone!! So, I think it's actually a really cool thing that I will be adopting!

Like I said, I'm still in recovery - but I have agree with another poster - I already feel better. Perhaps it is psychosomatic, but who cares?!? I FEEL better! And now, not only do I never have to worry about periods, I' finished worrying about cancer and clotting and bleeding and severe pain (I ended up having really severe endo).

So, HELL YES I am very happy! LOL!

Re: anyone else really happy?

Nomadicgrrrl, I completely get it.

It took 4 GYNs before someone really "listened" to what was going on with me. That one did not do surgery so she passed me off to GYN 5. When he did the hyster he found lots of endo (he said "it looked like a bomb went off in there.") Other doctors told me that what I was experiencing was "normal."

I am being extra careful now, because I know he had a lot of extra work to do and I don't want scar tissue. But it's all worth it.

Wishing you the best in the rest of your recovery, and with that adoption you plan for the future--good for you!

Re: anyone else really happy?

I was very happy to wish my uterus and cervix farewell. Won't miss 'em, either.

Re: anyone else really happy?

I am so happy for all of you. It is perfectly fine to be so happy. I think it is great to express happiness about the good things about this. I was reading your posts and thinking of all the good things about this and it made me smile. So i say be happy and enjoy the good things. I am happy about my decision and generally with my overall recovery. Have good and bad days but it certainly makes me smile to read all the great posts from all of you. I think the parties are a great idea. And the image of running down the road throwing away the tampons makes me laugh. I think the reaction would be hysterical to see.

Re: anyone else really happy?

I have been EXTREMELY happy with the results of my hyster. And so has my husband. We still fist-bump everytime a tampon commercial comes on.

I had my surgery 6 months ago and I although I thought I cleared out all the feminine hygeine products (I gave my SIL a brown paper grocery bag full and then my Sister a plastic grocery bag full), I am STILL finding them in suitcases, purses, and drawers that I don't use very often.

I expressed my surprise about this to my DH and he said "Honey, I just don't think you realized how it had taken over your life." (Wipe away tear).

NOT ANY MORE!!! Halleluiah, I am free at last!

Re: anyone else really happy?

I have never been happier about a decision in my entire life! For so many years my life revolved around my period, but when it started dictating my life 25 out of 30 days each month, that is when I knew something had to be done. This month period-free has been life renewing, I know I made the right decision.

Re: anyone else really happy?

I also feel great about havig my hyst. While I'm only on day 11 of my recovery I'm really excited about my future. I've suffered for years but always chalked it up to getting older.(I'm 42) The bleeding, clots, back pain, anemia, emotional distress and in general abdominal pain should have been warning sign but as a woman I found I just sucked it up.

I went into surgery for fybroids found out after that I had endo and adenomyosis. No wonder I felt like crap!! My Dr. said considering what he found that I had "bragging rights"lol I know it sounds silly but that made me feel better about everything. It wasn't all in my head.

So yes I'm happy and can't wait to see how wonderful my quaity of life will be when I'm completely healed.

Re: anyone else really happy?

Cardi lover, it doesn't sound silly at all. I feel the same exact way. It's such a relief to know that all those years, I wasn't just a hypochondriac or complaining over nothing.
