Hair loss

Hi I have noticed that after I wash my hair huge clumps of hair are coming out. Is this normal? What could be causing it? I am concerned I am going to be bald....I feel like crying since i am so confused with it.

Re: Hair loss

Hi I just had my total hyst. dec. 30. I actually do hair and specialize in hair loss. Medications and stress can cause temporary hair loss. Don't panic! More than likely it is due to the surgery and meds and anthestetics. I do better hair than spell. Stay calm heal yourself and just keep an eye on it. I have seen alot of this in ladies and it almost always comes back even better! If it worsens in a few weeks then call the dr for sure. feel good!

Thanks Stylistwendy
I feel so much better. I was concerned I was going to be bald. Is there any kind of shampoo or conditioner I can use to help prevent it?

Re: Hair loss

I lost quite a bit of hair during the first few months as well. I was scared to death I would go bald! It did stop eventually and I imagine it was due to the stress of the surgery. It might be a hormonal issue as well and I'm sure some ladies will come along to share their insight on that.

Hang in there!

Thats nice to know that others are in or were in the same boat as me. I must have been stressing for a while since the sunday before my surgery I washed my hair and handfulls came out. i have been told its temporary...i wonder if its related to my thyroid issue? I have an underactive thyroid but if i remember correctly hair loss is a symptom of an overactive thyroid.
I am hanging in there as best as I can

Re: Hair loss

I'm also scared because I have been brushing my hair only to get handfuls of hair in the brush or in my hand when I run my fingers through it. What stylistwendy said sounds pretty spot on. I know my sister, who is a cosmetologist, would probably tell me the same thing. She's mentioned to me before how meds and stress can make that happen.

I figure I'll just be patient and if its still happening in a few weeks, then I'll look into things.

Glad we all could help. Also the tyroid thing is soooooo common.
Uusally these losses are from within topical sometimes is not the answer. Vitamins and minerals and wheatgrass I have heard are great for what causes these things. But with the surgeries that we are all going or gone thru ask dr. first. Nioxin is a topical product that seems to really help the loss. Once you start you have to continue use. Also you need the entire program, Not just the shampoo and condititoner. You'll be fine! Have a great day!

Now i feel better...I am not the only one experiencing hair loss. I hope its only temporary so I am limiting how often i brush it out.

Re: Hair loss

I did actually talk to my sister, and she confirmed, it is definitely stress and hormones and meds. It will end as recovery progresses. Thank heaven!
