Any Endo sisters happy with their choice of Hysterectomy and BSO?

There are very few listings in the "Endo: Stories of Triumph over pain" area of the message boards in the last year.

I would like to hear from those sisters who have endometriosis and are happy with their choice to have a hysterectomy and BSO. Has your quality of life improved, how many years has it been and anything else you would like to share. : )

Re: Any Endo sisters happy with their choice of Hysterectomy and BSO?

I can say I have been a much happier person this last year in that regards. It has been nice not doubling over in pain and living on pain killers either OTC or Rx. My heating pad has gathered dust over the year and thinking I abandonded it

I hope your results are as good.

Re: Any Endo sisters happy with their choice of Hysterectomy and BSO?

Well, a little over a year ago, I went in for surgery to remove an endometrioma and possibly an ovary laproscpicly. However, once the doctor go in there, she said I was a mess, had a lot of endometriosis, adhesions on my bowel, appendix, abodominal wall, etc. So, she closed me back up. Two months later I had a total abdominal hysterectomy exactly one year ago this week. I do not miss the pain at all. I did have some menstrual like pain still after the surgery, but it was just my nerves, muscles healing. That has all stopped now. It is unbelievable to me how damaging that endometriosis can be. My quality of life has greatly improved. However, I am 46 years old and going now through surgical induced menopause. But other than it....it's so nice going on a trip and not having to worry about that time of the month.

Re: Any Endo sisters happy with their choice of Hysterectomy and BSO?

My hyst was not a success in my case. There was endo left and I continued to have problems that escalated about 3 months after the hyst. I found a specialist and am about 15 months out from that surgery. I am feeling great. I am hesitant about posting mine as a success story. Certainly, I hope the surgery was a success! I guess I feel I will jinx myself if I post that I am cured. I am just weird like that. I have both my fingers crossed and am feeling amazing!

Re: Any Endo sisters happy with their choice of Hysterectomy and BSO?

I'm happy with my decision. Had the hyst years ago for prolapsed uterus then the BSO only a year and bit ago. Didn't even know there was endo until the BSO, though suspected it based on symptoms. BSO was done by regular ob/gyn so I think some endo was left...

The hormone replacement journey was not easy but finally I think I'm at a good point (took almost a year though).

I don't miss the heavy bleeding, incapacitating pain, very short cycles and long periods of bleeding. I don't miss the loading up of feminine supplies, but also didn't realize I'd be spending money down the road on more prescriptions (hormones).

I think some endo was left in my case, so facing further surgery for that next month, among other things...

Drs make the hormone replacement sound so easy. It's not. It's a frustrating journey, but once you find what works for you, it's great. For me it's better than prior to the BSO as my ovaries had quit for the most part anyway. Nice not to have to deal with fluctuating levels anymore.

I'm grateful for the first surgery. I'm really, really hoping the second surgery will finish this pain for good.

Re: Any Endo sisters happy with their choice of Hysterectomy and BSO?

Had my TAH BSO almost a year ago...I feel SOOO much better now than I have in YEARS!!! I chose not to go on any hormones so I'm dealing with a few of those issues...My Doctor was a gyno/oncologist specialist which was a great plus...He removed lots of endo and adhesions..I don't know what the future will bring, but I know that I made the right decision and feel 100% better than I have in several years....
