12 Days after Davinci, MAJOR setback !
I had the DaVinci on 1/15. I was doing really well until 1/23, when I develope a fever that was persistant. I went to the Dr. yesterday and had to endore an internal (OUCH). I have picked-up some kind of nasty infection that is requiring 2000mg of antibiotics a day. All I want to do is sit and cry. Every day I am noticing something wrong. Today it was mild bleeding after a BM. Is there anyone out there who has had a setback? Will it get better? I can't sleep at night, I am scared of all the pain I am in, and I cry continually.

Re: 12 Days after Davinci, MAJOR setback !
Sorry you are having to go through all of this. I had a da vinci on Nov 18, no major set backs. You are still super early in recovery, even though we had the almighty "laser" surgery, lol, you body still needs to heal the same, and we still had the same organs taken out. Your immune is down right now, so your body is very at risk for infections. If you can stand it, try to stay at home for a bit, meaning you won't be as exposed.
I would keep an eye on the blood thing, is it in your BM or are you bleeding vaginally? I hope things get better for you, I am sure you are like many of us here, the surgery just wasn't what you were expecitng, right? It is very hard, ain't gonna lie, but it does get better. This experience will make us stronger, eventually! I don't know if you kept your ovaries or not, but if the emontional part keeps on, please talk to your doc, it's such a simple thing to feel better, not worth you suffering through. He can help. Many prayers and HUGS

Re: 12 Days after Davinci, MAJOR setback !
Infection is a common complication and thank goodness there are antibiotics! I developed a mild UTI after he Davinci (mild fever) and took some antibiotics for 5 days. It went away. The bleeding is common also, for at least 4-6 weeks. Sometimes it stops and restarts, or just happens after a strain like BM. I ate pineapple, prunes and took a stool softener for 4 weeks to avoid straining. The vaginal cuff is soft, mucous membrane that takes time to heal, and the stitches stretch and bleed. Unless you soak a pad every hour, you are going thru something normal. I know it's hard not to worry, but with rest, fluid and take your anti-biotics, you should be fine. Hang in there!!!

Re: 12 Days after Davinci, MAJOR setback !
Thank you so much for the support ! The blood is from the BM, (I know this is TMI, and I'm sorry !) and it's not alot. So I don't know if it's from the infection, or maybe I should buy stool softeners in case it's something that minor. All I know is, I feel so lousy because I was doing really well and now I have had this setback.

Are you having vaginal spotting after a BM or rectal spottig/bleeding? I had vaginal slightly red/brown spotting after a BM for weeks. I am almost 4 weeks postop and it just now going away.

No, it's definitely BM related, rectal.

Re: 12 Days after Davinci, MAJOR setback !
Scaredhysterica,
I wonder if you have hemorrhoids? That might cause bleeding. I would probably call the doctor to let them know so they can make sure that you haven't developed something else.
I had A DVH on Sept. 9th and have had multiple complications ever since. Two times back in hospital for over one week per time with IV's and the whole bit. Had contracted Hepatitis A. Since last hospitalization, have had a sinus infection that caused TMJ inflammation of joint, then yeast infection in mouth and vagina. I now am battling a bladder infection and am going to see my urologist this pm because none of the meds given to me by my primary are doing a thing. Constant pain from this. So yes, I do know how it feels to have complications. Two words: IT STINKS!!!! I know the frustration that goes along with it. It does get better but once your immune system gets knocked down, it takes a while to get better. Mine is shot right now but I am feeling better than prior to surgery. I also think that emotional mood swings are very common as our hormones adjust. If you can't sleep, please tell your doctor. It may be the hormones and he may be able to give you something to help. It takes time to feel better. I try to find one thing a day that is really good and just stay positive. I think there are several of us who have had complications or setbacks. Please don't feel like you are alone. We are all here for you. This site has been my lifeline. Sending tons of hugs.

Re: 12 Days after Davinci, MAJOR setback !
I also had the DaVinci on 1/12. I have had setbacks also. I haven't heard anyone talk about this but I ended up in the hospital 1/20 with emergency surgery as my left kidney was not draining and there was an injury or!damage to my left ureter. The urologist put in a stent that I have to have for 6 weeks. It is completely awful! I also have had trouble having a bm. It's like everything down there spasms.

Re: 12 Days after Davinci, MAJOR setback !
Scaredhysterica,
I feel your pain. I saw your post after I posted this morning about my own post op infection. I've been hospitalized twice after my surgery on 1/8 as the infection could not be controlled. I'm home now on IV antibiotics that I give myself in the morning through a PICC line. I think I know how desperately disappointed you feel. I cry at the drop of a hat, so let's add in surgical menopause to the feeling of illness that comes with infection. We will get through this and ultimately, this will all be just a bad memory.
Take care of yourself - don't push yourself to do much or you will set back your recovery. Trust me on that. The minute I do much more then walk up the stairs, my body tells me to shut down for a while.
