anyone else have horrible tailbone pain?
Hello Sisters-- I have not seen any posts on this topic, so just thought I would ask. Have any of you experienced excruciating tailbone pain after your surgery? I am 6 weeks post-op on Thursday and did not start having this pain until 2 weeks ago. Thought it might be due to laying around more than usual, but now I don't think that's the case. In the last 2 weeks, I have been much more active. Not over- doing it, but up all day, busy around the house. Every day it is getting worse, and I have actually gone back on percocet (thankfully, I still had some left), trying to get some relief. I have been on 2 rounds of antibiotics for UTIs, plus diflucan for yeast and still have a lot of pain in the vagina and urethra. Plus I now have the worst case of hemorrhoids that I have ever experienced!
I had a rectocele repair done at the same time as my TAH/BSO. Do you think that could be the cause of all this?Anybody else have anything like this???

Re: anyone else have horrible tailbone pain?
I have had tailbone since about 3 weeks out from surgery. I ended going to the chiropractor just recently because it was not getting any better and my tailbone had gotten "twisted" some how. When he adjusted me I literally felt it move. I have not had as much pain in the tailbone area but it is still there.

I would mention it to your dr. But I also have it when I get "backed" up and can't go.

Re: anyone else have horrible tailbone pain?
I have had excruciating tailbone pain for several weeks.
This pain was not bad until about 6 weeks post surgery. This is also the same time I went back to work. I called my doctor's office and they were not surprised or alarmed by my reporting this pain. The nurse told me it was probably aggravated by riding in the car to and from work and sitting at my office desk all day. They told me it was the deep stitches from the rectocele that I had at the same time as my hysterectomy. The doctor said those stitches would remain for 12 weeks. Meanwhile my tailbone pain continues. I sit on a pillow in the car and have another one in my desk chair at work. The pain is much worse when I have been sitting a long time and then I stand up. Sometimes I have spasms around my tailbone. I have another 3 weeks to go before that 12 week window. I sure hope the pain goes away! This pain is a million times worse that any pain from the surgery was.

Re: anyone else have horrible tailbone pain?
I had my hysterectomy in October 09 and had a few complications which required a further two operations and five weeks in hospital in total. Six weeks after original op I started suffering with terrible pain in my tailbone. The pain was terrible as you say after sitting and then standing up. In the end I had a cortisone injection into the tailbone area under ga and the pain has now gone! It might be worth talking to your doctor if your pain persists.

Re: anyone else have horrible tailbone pain?
Oy I am in for it! I just had my TAH about a week ago and my tailbone is constantly killing me. I cannot sit long but cannot walk long yet. I feel as if I might go crazy sometimes. Right now it is killing me sitting here. I already do get similar pain from my spondy arthritis but this has been so horrible. Mine started almost immediately, about two or three days post surgery maybe? I did not have any repairs, only the removal of my cervix and uterus. When I sit here on the bed I find myself squirming and literally scooting down until I am laying before I realize it while I am playing around on the laptop. The first time or two I kept going, why do I keep sliding down on the bed? LOL

Re: anyone else have horrible tailbone pain?
I had my hysterectomy on Oct. 19. I started experiencing low back and tailbone pain right away. I cannot stand or walk for long periods and the pain is aweful. My surgeon said it was from the positions we are in during the surgery and also because the stomach muscles are out of shape due to surgery so the back takes over for the stomach muscles. He said it would take a couple months for the pain to subside. I could not stand the pain so I went to my family doctor and he sent me to physical therapy. I have only gone to 2 sessions and can feel a difference already. Although the workout is strenuous and painful, I am noticing the difference. I hope you all feel better soon.

Re: anyone else have horrible tailbone pain?
Hello,
I can relate to the tailbone issues. I would consult your doctor. I would also suggest if you have a magic bag to heat it up to a warm state (not hot still early in surgery) and lay back on it for a few minutes. Our core muscles have been extremely disturbed and we have been on our backs for extreme lengths of time. More than we're used to. Tailbones are joined by hibones and all the muscles that once supported it are taking a vacation whether we like it or not.
I experience a low-grade ache like a toothache when I have been unable to have a BM for a couple of days.
Is it a continuous ache or do you notice it more if you're sitting up more or standing/moving more? Is it worse in the evenings compated to mornings? I would start taking note of when it acts up the most and be sure to let your doctor know.
Another trick if you have a DH or significant other is to have them place their hand on your tailbone air and lightly rub it for about five minutes. This sends out a message to pain receptors to calm down.
This really does sound like one for your doctor though.
Get feeling better and I hope some of the suggestions help.
