Pain with prolapses

Hi Sisters!

I was just wondering if anyone else out there is in pain because of their prolapses?

I have a grade 2-2.5 cystocele, a grade2 rectocele, and perineal laxity. I have pain almost everyday... it's deep within my abdomen right above my pubic bone... sometimes in my vagina, and sometimes deep inside my rectum.

I'm so sick of this pain! I'm still taking Lortab... which does help... but is it normal to actually feel PAIN from prolapses? It's so unpredictable too... somedays having a BM can make me feel better... other days it makes my rectum sore for the entire day... I have to add that I'm NOT constipated... bu I do have to splint to empty out.

Sometimes it hurts when I urinate before, during, and after.

I don't know... I guess I just want someone to tell me that I'm not alone. I will be having surgery next month sometime... I just hope it helps this pain.

Thanks so much ladies.

Re: Pain with prolapses

Hi Lisa,

Nope, you're not alone! I had very bad pelvic/vaginal/lower back pain. If I was on my feet for more that 15 minutes the pain would get so bad I would cry and have to lie down... sitting down didn't alleviate the pain. I had a cystocele, rectocele, enterocele and vaginal vault prolapse. My uro/gyn said enterocele's are the most painful.

All four prolapses were done at the same time - NO mesh. I am so happy I had them taken care of, I've almost forgotten how the pain felt. You will be amazed at how well you feel - after the initial recovery.

Take care of yourself and keep us posted!

Re: Pain with prolapses

I had/have the same pain over pubic bone, lower and radiating down to toes. I can't stand or sit for extended periods.

Had TVH on 1/12 with repairs for cystocele and rectocele. Hopefully the pain will decrease over time. I have actually passed out from pain so it can get to be pretty scary.

Re: Pain with prolapses

lolson, you're not alone....I have pain, along with intense vaginal/perineum area burning sensation. I have a rectocele and enterocele. Although both of my surgeons have said I shouldn't have pain from these, obviously there are many women who do. It is hard to sit or stand for lengthy periods of time. I hope you find relief from your surgery.....from the sounds of other women's postings, it sounds hopeful
Take care.

Re: Pain with prolapses

I have been having the same types of pain. And forget it when I have my period... Pain is 10 times worse. Although I have back problems and have had 2 fusion surgeries in the last year so it is hard to know what is causing what pain.

I am having to have my bladder problems figured out before I can have the hysterectomy. I am also so ready to be done with all the pain!!

Re: Pain with prolapses

Yes, aching pain when standing too long/lifting at all.... feels like heaviness/aching in lower pelvic area, rectum, vagina, etc. Also bladder kind of aches after peeing. Have cystocele (previously repaired), rectocele, enterocele (previously repaired)... no mesh so far, but who knows what the future holds...?

Hi Diana,
How long was your hospital stay, and how long were you off work

Re: Pain with prolapses

Hi maurz,

I was suppose to be in the hospital for one night but I had some breathing problems so I had to stay another night. I put in for six weeks off - as suggested by my doctor - but went back part time after four weeks.
I was tired for the first week, came home and took a nap. After that, it was all down hill.

Are you scheduled for surgery?

Red face - Pain with prolapses Re: Pain with prolapses

Hi Diana, No, I have an appointment with the specialist on 23/2/10, I have been advised that a pessary may be an option, but I really want the problem fixed, I am in so much pain. I was told by my GP that if I have surgery I might be in hospital for anything between three to five days.

Re: Pain with prolapses

Hi Lisa,

I had a prolapse of my vagina and needed a rectocele repair as well. This was done 4 weeks ago and apart from the post op pain I can tell you the back ache that I put up with for years has now gone - hooray! I have found the recovery slow going as I didn`t realise the repair was going to be quite so painful and and sitting down has been a real challenge, as it was all done vaginally. Finally I have stopped taking pain meds 2 days ago and seem to finally be making progress, even managing to be able to sit long enough in the car to go out for a coffee. My hospital stay was for 5 days (which seemed like forever) but better to be safe than sorry. Gool luck with whatever you decide just remember to take it easy once you come home you really don`t want to go back in for repair work - once is enough.
