Spotting 3 years after Partial Hysterectomy

I had a partial hysterectomy in November 2006, and it's been great. However, today I noticed that I'm spotting. I kept both ovaries, but not my cervix. I haven't had a pap or pelvic exam since my surgery so I'm concerned that maybe I should see my doctor. Anyone else have this issue or have any suggestions?

Re: Spotting 3 years after Partial Hysterectomy

I am sorry you are experiencing some bleeding issues. There can actually be a wide variety of reasons for post hysterectomy bleeding. One, hormonal imbalance (even if you have your ovaries) can allow for some vaginal dryness/atrophy. The vaginal cuff might have some issues, even this far out. Sexual activity sometimes can trigger some bleeding. Could the blood be coming from your bladder by any chance?

I would suggest making an appointment with your GYN to see what is going. While there are some minor reasons for post hysterectomy bleeding, there are also some major ones.

By the way, it sounds like you had a complete hysterectomy. If the complete uterus with cervix is removed, it is called a complete (or total) hysterectomy. The removal of the ovaries is actually called an oophorectomy! I know, the terms can get really confusing!

Call your and let us know what you find out!
