Blood Pressure during Pre-op

Did anyone else have high blood pressure during the pre-op appointments? Mine was through the roof for me!!

The hospital pre-admission staff was great and re-took it several times during the pre-admission process, and it was finally lowered.

I knew I was nervous.... but WOW!!

Anyone else have that problem?

Blood Pressure during Pre-op

My blood pressure was high a few weeks before surgery but after wards it went rignt down. My md said it could have been alot of factors but since it went back to normal he wasn't too concerned. I keep an eye on it and check it once a month. Just monitor and report any changes (up or down) to your doctor, and good luck with your recovery. My prayers are with you.

Blood Pressure during Pre-op

Mine was off the chart and did not come down till after surgery. You can hear my whole story on the post called a pre-op-no-no.

Thanks to my Doc who knew that my BP goes up during anxious moments, like docs things went well and I am one week post op no problems.

Blood Pressure during Pre-op

Honey, mine has been so high at dct appointments and in ER's and during pre-ops that they have kept me for observation. Once my dct threatened to admit me if I didn't calm down.

So to answer your question, yes it's normal. If they nurse thought it was too high she would have had a dct come in and check you out or atleast sent you down to the Er.

You'll be ok I'm sure.

Blood Pressure during Pre-op

I have never had that happen before. The funnt thing was I felt fine. I was not "freaking out" at that point ( I save that for 2AM!!). I thought I was calm.

The doctor did take it the last 2 times. I think that is why they kept me there for so long. Pre-admission was to take 30 minutes. I got there at 1:00 and left at 2:30. I was sent me from the office area to a bed with a curtain to have my blood pressure taken the last 2 times.

Hope that does not happen on surgery day!

Blood Pressure during Pre-op

My blood pressure was so high the weeks before my surgery. My GYN sent me to my MD to check it out before giving me a date. Last Friday was the first day it has been normal in a long time.

160/110

I don't know what you call "throught the roof", but mine was 160/110. This was not at my pre-op, but at my visit to ob-gyn who I was afraid would recommend a hysterectomy. (I was right.) I had fibroids for years and they started hurting me towards the end. I was concerned and asked her if my blood pressure was this high surgery day would she refuse me surgery and she said, "No, there are drugs we can put in IV to bring it down."

I do have high blood pressure and this reading was on meds that are supposed to control it. About a week later I went to dentist to get tooth pulled and it was 160/100. I guess I wasn't as scared then. Pressure was also high day of TAH when in pre-op prep.

Now it seems to have gone down quite a bit. Sometimes I almost think it is too low like 103/70.
