bowel movment in hospital if I did a bowel prep before

I had my surgery tuesday, a TAH, I did a bowel prep before surgery. A nurse just came on shift and said that I needed to have a bowel movement or she was going to do an enema. Is that really necessary? I have had no trouble passing gas or urinating. I started drinking coffee today to see if that produces a movement (it works at home) I have only had 2 solid meals so far dinner last night and breakfast this morning. Is she rushing things?

My doctor would not let me leave the hospital until I had a bowel movement. I had only eaten a few bites of solid food at this time. He ordered a suppository. I was not happy. The thought of having to try to make it to the bathroom without soiling myself sent me over the edge.
The nurse said I could refuse the suppository, but also warned me about the the possible complications. I did refuse and was able to go the next day on my own.
I think this is standard for some doctors. They want to make sure everything is working before they send you home.

So your surgery was just two days ago? Gosh, when I was discharged I was told it can take up to 5 days to have a BM after a bowel prep.

Dr. just came in and said i could go home. Nurse was wrong and that it could take a few days.

I had a bowel resection along with my DVH-BSO and they let me leave after I passed gas. I think it was a day or two later before I had a BM.
