burning watery eyes since using estradiol
I have recently started using a low dose estradiol oil vaginally. I am having systemic reactions to it which are obviously due to the fact my body is getting accustomed to it.
Two days ago I upped my dose a little and the following day my eyes started to burn. Today my eyes were even worse and also red and watering. I also have had a dreadful headache all day.
I do suffer with dry eyes and have drops from my doctor. This is not the same. They are burning and watering since starting the estradiol.
Has anyone else had this please?

Re: burning watery eyes since using estradiol
Sounds like you might have an allergy to it, or, the estradiol is drying them out more. Seems after I put on my bio-estrogen cream, mine get drier and burn? You might want to check with your pharmacy about the ingredients in your estrogen, such as soy base. Alot of us are highly allergic to that. Mine uses Wild Yam as a base instead?

Re: burning watery eyes since using estradiol
Yes it does sound like an allergy but I am not actually allergic to soy. I did a bit of googling last night and I found info that HRT CAN make eyes dry and sore because the estrogen is not the same as our own body would make and also it reduces testosterone levels even further which is the route of dry eyes.
I have stopped the oil now and my eyes are feeling better already. I was feeling pretty rough yesterday with a dreadful headache too.
Thanks for replying, anyway.

Re: burning watery eyes since using estradiol
Uk lady,
hello! Love reading ur posts!
I started oral estradiol .1 on Friday and have had the headaches almost every day since, too. They usually respond to OTC meds, so far.
I have noticed the menopause symptoms are better though hv had some joint pain.
Haven't noticed particularly the dry eyes so far, but wonder if natural tears may help you?
Is the oil nice? Is it messy? I am so dry 'down there' and am hoping the pill helps eventually. I did buy some OTC ky suppositories that help but minimally.
Good luck honey! I'm also doing OTC progesterone which nit sure now that I should be doing based on my fav hyster hostess "Linda"s reply to an earlier post. Thinking now I should've waited. Ugh.
Still a bit early for me on libidio but I've had trouble wi tht waaay before surgery due to uterus pain. Basically. I've had zero since a bout wi situational despression.
Okay, I'm rambling!
Thanks for keeping us informed and for all of your replies everywhere. We are what makes this site work!
I'm still tot addicted and may need hystersister's anonymous or a three step program to make me stop logging in every hour to check it!! Rofl!!
Pray I sleep--tht's an entirely diff thread!!

Re: burning watery eyes since using estradiol
Hi- and thanks for your compliment!
I already had dry eyes so I use a product from my doctor called Gel Tears. The burning only started when I began the estradiol though.
Last week I tried to increase the dose and the rims of my eyes went really red and sore!
The estradiol oil I am using is one I concocted myself with my doctor's agreement. I am unable to use estriol cream-it makes me very moody and anxious, so I use this for vaginal dryness instead.
I put a blob of estrogel in a small bottle of almond oil, warm it slightly and shake the two well together.
I then apply the oil when I need it. I am very sensitive to estrogen so this is a great method for me as I only need to use a little.
I am still getting the headaches too though-ughh!
I hope you continue to do well anyway
best wishes
