I am having the Da Vinci hysterectomy scheduled for Feb 17th, and am wondering if the catheter is still in when you wake up? How long before they remove it? My doctor does all of his Da Vinci surgery's same day, you go home 4 hours after surgery...just nervous that is not enough time to make sure you can pee on your own. My mom and sister had a TAH, and a Vag. Hysterectomy and they both kept the catheter in for several days and both had to get put back on the cath because they could not pee the first times they took it out.
I had a DaVinci hysterectomy on 1/26. I had a cath when I woke up and it did not get removed until 5am the next morning (I remember, because they woke me up to do it!). I went home just after noon on 1/27 - I'm not sure whether they would have kept me until I could pee on my own, because it wasn't an issue at all for me.
I had a dVh and my catheter wasn't removed until the next morning at 6 am. They kept me in the hospital until I could pee. Didn't have a problem luckily but boy did I want that out!! It wasn't very comfortable and the worst was that they forgot I was Latex allergic and used Latex gloves to check it. I was itching so bad I couldn't stand it. They had to call my doctor because they weren't sure what had happened. Latex allergy was what he said and gave me creams and oral meds for it. I would have been fine except for their forgetfulness.
I had DaVinci LSH and mine was in when I woke up about 11 and I had it out in an hour or two. I asked for it to come out because I felt like I could go on my own. They took it out and I went cuz I felt like I could but only nothing came out. But then I went again in 1/2 hour and went and ended up going 2 more times before I left.
I had a TAH and the catheter was removed very early the next morning. It did not bother me, and I was glad I had it in the day of surgery. I did not have any problems afterwards. Drink lots of WATER!!!
