Bladder Medications?

Hi All,

I am waiting for insurance issues to be resolved so I can get surgery. I need a bladder sling for incontinence and a total hysterectomy for my list of pelvic diseases.

At any rate, while I wait for surgery my Urologist prescribed me Vesicare to help control the over-active bladder problems I've been having. Well, I was to do two weeks at a lower dose then go up to a higher one. Two nights ago I went up in dosage and had an anaphylactic response.

We're talking hives, closing throat, rushed to the ER for epinephrine, the whole works.

The Vesicare hadn't been working all that well to begin with. I'm trying to decide if it's worth checking out another drug.

Have any of you had any luck with over-active bladder meds?

Re: Bladder Medications?

Hi - I was on Enablex for several months after my TVH in April 09. I think the dosage was about 7.5 I tolerated it pretty well however the side effect that bothered me the most was the blurred vision. I use reader glasses and even with my glasses on my vision was still blurry and I got tired of it. My doctor originally told me he thought I would only need the medication for several months until my bladder recovered from the shock of surgery. I took myself off after about 6 months post op and haven't had too many problems; don't get me wrong, I'm not pain free, I guess I've just learned to deal with what each day brings, some days are better than others. You might ask your doctor about the difference between Vesicare and Enablex.

Red face - Bladder Medications? Re: Bladder Medications?

I use levsin without any problems. It is also called hyoscyamine. It is a tablet that dissolves under the tongue. It seems to work without any side effects. Good luck to you.

Re: Bladder Medications?

Ask him about "Gelnique". It's a gel you rub on and it absorbs into your bloodstream right away, with very minimal side effects if any. I have been on it for a month, and it works pretty good!
