Surgery Friday and sore throat!!!

So I started with a scratchy throat Monday night, which turned into soreness on the left side of my throat yesterday morning. The good news is, it hasn't gotten any worse. The bad news is, it isn't any better. I am a touch achy, but other than that, no other symptoms. My son had this last week, and despite Lysoling the entire house, I still got it. He said the sore throat lasted 2-3 days.

Should I be worried? So far, I do not have a fever. I am not having general anesthesia...I am having a spinal with sedation. SOOOO hoping this is gone by Friday, although I really don't think it would be a problem for me. This would not keep me from going to work or doing anything...

Re: Surgery Friday and sore throat!!!

My paperwork says to tell my doctor if I have any of the following: cold, sore throat, fever or flu symptoms. They need to know if you have a sore throat because of the breathing tube they put in during surgery.

I know what you mean though. My son was vomiting last night and I was all freaked out about it. So far so good (knock on wood).

Re: Surgery Friday and sore throat!!!

Hi there! Sorry you are feeling badly. My guess is that if you don't have fever or any signs of infection, this shouldn't delay the surgery. Just be sure you mention it the day of surgery.

I got an abscessed tooth like 2 weeks before surgery and I actually had my OB/GYN prescribe an antibiotic even though he didn't want to (he wanted me to go to the dentist but I couldn't afford it right then.) I was so scared that the infection would delay the surgery and it probably would have.

Best wishes and think healing thoughts!
