Walking after surgery

I just had my surgery 5 days ago and still feel like a slug with no energy. Friends say they started walking immediately and felt better. I feel dizzy and sick from the meds but I hurt without them. Should I push myself to go out and walk?

Re: Walking after surgery

if you feel sick and dizzy on your meds i wouldnt leave the house. if you need to walk around, just do it in your home. maybe stay close to the walls if you need to steady yourself. dont push things. every one is different in recovery. i didnt really walk around much my first week, i just went from the bed to a chair, to the bathroom.

Re: Walking after surgery

Yes! Walk if and when you feel up to it! Just stop when your body says too much. I started walking 7 days post-op, building up distance gradually.

Re: Walking after surgery

I started out by making myself walk 100 steps every time I got up to go to the bathroom.
