5 weeks post op and having left pelvic and lower back pain
Has any one had this happen and if so what was it. I am 5 weeks post op and for the last 3 weeks I have been having severe pain on my left side. I went to the Dr. at 3 weeks and he gave me antibiotics because, I had a bladder infection right after surgery and he thought that I might still have it.
Thursday I went back to the Dr. and told him it was not any better. I can not stand to walk for more than 5 or 10 minutes, and sitting straight up is horrible. He ordered a CT scan. He stated that he was looking for a kink in my tubing that goes to by kidneys.
I had the Ct done Friday and the only thing it showed was a cyst in my liver. His nurse called me back and told me he would go over everything next week when I come in, but last night and today I have been in horrible pain from sitting in the radiologist office all day. So I called my Drs office and spoke with the Dr on call and she states that th ct scan looked fine other than the small cyst in the liver. she said it could be adhesions but she thought it could be IBS or deep muscle spasms. so she gave me a muscle relaxer and a pill for IBS and told me to try it and if that didn't help by tonight to call her back. It has now been 6 hours since I took them and they are not helping!!!!!!!!!!
If any one has any ideas it would be appreciated.

Re: 5 weeks post op and having left pelvic and lower back pain
How's your GI system been? Lower left pain could indicate trouble with sigmoid colon area. If your GI system is acting up or down, that could be an indication it's from GI system. Have you ever had diverticulosis/diverticulitis episode? That would not show up on CT scan. Does it get better or worse with position? With eating? Before or after bathroom activity? If you start writing down what affects the pain, perhaps you might get a better idea of what's causing it.
I know my GI system got messed with by the painkillers I was taking following my surgery. Antibiotics could also stress it if it's already irritated.
Good luck. I hope you get some relief soon. Meanwhile, a heating pad always seems to help me with pelvic pain/discomfort of any kind.

Re: 5 weeks post op and having left pelvic and lower back pain
Nothing really seems to help, walking and sitting straight up makes it worse and will cause stabbing pains.
The Dr yesterday called in medicine for IBS. she thought that maybe my colon was in spasams and causing some IBS. the only symptoms I have had though is one day I am constipated and the next I am running to the bathroom, but none of that helps or makes the pain worse.
As far as eating I have not had an appettiet since surgery. I will eat a bite or two and I dont want any more. The pain has gotten so bad at times it makes me sick at my stomach.
Thanks for replying any ideas help.

Re: 5 weeks post op and having left pelvic and lower back pain
Bakerlady,
I ended up going to the ER today because the pain became so bad I could not stand it anymore. The Dr in the Dr. Thinks I have nerve damage coming from the surgery, and states that it could take 6mos to a year for it to completley heal. He gave me stronger pain meds and medicine for the nerves.
Now I just hope and pray I start to feel better soon.
I hope and pray you start to feel better soon to.

Barkley Joe,
My goodness.I am so sorry to hear it.I had no idea one could get nerve damage from this surgery.I hope your pain will be controlled and that you will not take that long for healing. That is a long time to have to live with the pain. You are in my prayers Barkley Joe.Stay strong. It sounds like they think it is temprary(so to speak) and that the good news is it will heal.Take care now.

Re: 5 weeks post op and having left pelvic and lower back pain
I'm sorry to hear what you are experiencing! I hope you will find releif soon. I am almost three weeks post op and am beginning to feel the same symptoms;lower left pelvic pain, a very specific area, and lower back pain. I am calling my Dr this morning to make an appointment. My pain does not sound as intense as yours but I felt great the first week and it seems the pain is increasing instead of getting better.
