Stomach sticking out? Will it go away after surgery?

I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy on June 22. I am so ready to get rid of my problems because of my 9.9 cm fibroid including my stomach looking like I am 4 months pregnant. Also, I noticed something unusual: My stomach sticks out ABOVE my belly button. My fibroid is below it so I don't understand why that's happening.

I have read some of the posts from women saying they are experiencing bloating for months after surgery. I've been doing Weight Watchers since January and I have lost 12lb. but my stomach seems to never go down which is unusual for me. I am hoping to get rid of it once and for all. Will it happen soon after the surgery or will it take time? Thanks.

Well you know the saying each person is different, but when I went in to have my surgery I looked like I was 6 months prego and I would say maybe a week and my belly was gone, and I was one of the lucky ones to not get the swelly belly that some women get.

Hi Donnadoo,

My largest fibroid was much larger than yours, and caused my stomach to protrude. Once I had surgery, it immediately went down, A LOT. I am on the slim side, and do get a bit of swelling, but no where near how my belly used to look. I had surgery in Oct, and I noticed the swelling is not as much as it used to be. But everyone does have a different story.

Re: Stomach sticking out? Will it go away after surgery?

Hi Donnadoo,

I had two fibroids...measuring 9.1 cm total before my hyst. After my surgery recovery, the stomach pooch I had been carrying around for several months disappeared. I could button the top button on my pants again.

Best wishes~
