heat or cold for the end of day swelling

So which is better for the end of day swelling heat or cold? Or does it depend on the person? Some days are worse than others, depending on how much I did.

Re: heat or cold for the end of day swelling

Hi

Cold felt better for me. Continue to take it easy, and try not to over do. You should still be drinking lots and lots of water too.

I hope you continue to heal well.

Cold feels better for me, too. I still use my swelly belly band sometimes. It is such a comfort. It also helps alleviate some of the itchiness at my incision site.

Re: heat or cold for the end of day swelling

Hi there! At the 4 week mark for me and I love my ice packs. I seem to appreciate them more at night in front of the tv. The cat doesn't. He has designated himself as my furry, purring, heating pad during the day. He very gently climbs up and positions himself exactly over my tender spots. So, I'll say both heat and ice.

I'm thinking that the ladies are right and cold is probably the best.
I don't know from experience but I do know that heat makes me swell and bloat so it just makes sense that cold would be the best option...?

Thank you all. I have only done heat because it is so comforting and warm, I think I'll go watch the end of american Idol and try the ice with my fuzzy blanket. You all are great and bless you on your recovery.

Re: heat or cold for the end of day swelling

ICE is nice - it's my choice but your question reminds me of Robert Frost...

SOME say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Re: heat or cold for the end of day swelling

I was really suffering at the end of the day and the pain meds did help but not completley. I got out the ice pack and ahhhh..... I think it really helped dull the pain and reduced the swelling.
