Simple hyperplasia without atypia = precancer!?

After a 18 day period that left me with a hemoglobin of 5.1, two blood transfusions, trans-vag ultrasound, hysterscopy and D & C I feel like I've been through the wringer. My doctors and nurses have been openly discussing cancer eversince they found out that my endometrial lining was 29mm (I'm 41 and not menopausal).

I called the gyn's office to get the results of my biopsy and was told the nurse would call me back. 5 hours later I get the call from my Doctor himself (oh, crap.) and he takes a deep breath and sighs, "It isn't cancer. It is precancer. We'll treat it for 6 months with hormones then do another biopsy. We'll talk more about it when you come in for your follow up in 10 days."

Well, needless to say I was going crazy not knowing exactly what the DX was. I finally called my GP and asked them to read me the report. Know what it says?
"Simple hyperplasia without atypia due to unopposed estrogen proliferation."
Now, I have looked all over the place and I haven't found a single site that says that simple hyperplasia without atypia is a precancerous condition.

So, is it precancer, or not? Why is the doctor worrying me like this?!? From what I've read the chances I'll develop cancer is only like 1.6%. That doesn't seem worrysome at all.

Anyone else been told that this is precancer? Is my doctor just an alarmist? Honestly, right now I just want to slap him for making me worry so much.

Re: Simple hyperplasia without atypia = precancer!?

The reason some things are called Pre cancers is that a certain percentage, over a certain number of years they CAN develop into a cancer.
Conditions that are considered precancerous, are worthy of watching more closely that if you did not have them.

I would not be angry at the doctor, doctors in every situation are taught to rule out the most serious problem, and when that is done, then go on and deal with what you have found.
From someone who's diagnosis of cancer was delayed because the first doctor did not think of cancer when she should have, I would much rather be worried for not.
