Da Vinci Surgery?

For the folks who have had the Da Vinci proceedure-

How did you get the option? Did you luck out and happen to choose a surgeon that was trained, or did your doctor refer you to a trained provider once you decided this surgery was right for you?

I think I "lucked out." My gyno doesn't do surgery anymore and has a referral relationship with a very well respected doctor who is trained in it. His nurse told me I was lucky that I qualified for it, but I'm not sure what she meant. I had endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts. There were no expected complications, and my weight is good. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, although when I read some of the issues that others have had, I think it doesn't hurt to be in relatively good shape. My surgery was 3 weeks ago today and I feel great. Recovery has been a piece of cake. No pain, other than gas the first 36 hours, no bleeding, no swelling, no bathroom problems. I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity.

I found out about the daVinci surgery from this site. I then went to the daVinci site and looked up Drs in their locator list from my area and close by areas.

I called my GP (whose wife happens to be an Gyn) and asked him if he knew any of the Drs and I called for an appt.

Initially my gyn told me there were no laproscopic options for me because of a cancer diagnosis. I found out on my own that wasn't right and found the Dr. myself.

Since you aren't schedule yet if you look on the right hand of the screen you will see an event on April 1st 2010 about exploring options. That will be about the daVinci procedure.

I got very lucky, my gynecologist is also my surgeon and she had been trained in the davinci procedure. it was the best option for me and i am greatful .

I just got my doctor's approval for a hysterectomy today!
I told her I was interested in the Da Vinci procedure and she referred me on to a surgeon that does it.

This site has been wonderful for information, and it felt good to be able to ask for what I wanted as an educated consumer.
