Very scared .. Kids and toddlers mentioned

Hi everyone,
I'm a new bee. I just got my date 3.22.10 wow that is soon! But I did ask to be taken asap. I am 38 yrs old, I have 4 kids 14, 8 and 18 month old twins .
I have a 7 sono fibrod growing on the outside of the uterus. I have been having heavy bleeding with my periods forever. Now I have been bleeding 8 weeks straight. One month ago I was in so much pain and bleeding alot I went to the er... I had a d and c with an eblasion
well I don't think it worked because I am way worse off then before I started. My reg. Dr was on vacation so I had the associate. In fairness he dud say it might not work and probably it should come out. I guess I thought I knew better and insisted on trying that first. Ok so I woke up from that procedure in insane pain and have remained that way. Also, I had the usual spotting that they said was normal bur woke up on Monday with s full period! Great
I called my Dr who thankfully is back and she had me come right in. She was shocked I was still bleeding so much and told me that we had to take the fibroid out along with the uterus. She wants to leave the ovaries and cervex. Ovaries because of my age. I am still not sure about the cervex but she really wants to leave it as long ad it all looks ok when she gets in there. I have 4. Kids 2 eighteen month old twins and am totally freaking out! I have been through a cancer diagnosis at age 19 do pretty much I have been through every test, procedure and treatment. My cancer which was non hodgkins lymphoma is well in remission. Thank god and I went on to have my 4 miracle babies ! Drs said I couldn't get preg. Ok guess they were wrong because my twins were a totally natural surprise.. I am worried about taking care of them after. I have my dh taking off but he only had a few days. My mom is coming also only a few days .. Trying to work on more help.. Just really nervous, scared and freaking out.. Thank you for reading and I hope to get some replys anyone else with march 22 date want to compare and go through it together. I see done other ladies gave kind if teamed up! Well thank you and god bless all.

Re: Very scared .. Kids and toddlers mentioned

Wow, sounds like quite the ordeal.
I think you made the right choice trying the D&C and ablation first. It doesn't always work, but it's sometimes good to try other options first. I didn't, went straight for the hyster but you tried, it didn't work, and that's okay. At least your insurance company definitely can't say you didn't try other things first!
As far as help... being that your twins are so young, you are really going to need help for longer than just a few days. Luckily you have a 14 year old and an 8 year old that I'm sure can help.
Will the twins go to daycare during the day while you're recovering? That would be a blessing. Even if you had a neighbor to watch them instead of having to drive them to a daycare, that would be even better. Then in the evenings when the other kids are home from school and you DH is home, the load would be on them and not you.
I don't really know if you had a question other than looking for others going in around the same time as you... I'm 6 days post op so I can only offer advice and support, not be your buddy. But I DID have a couple of buddies that were going in on the same day as me and that definitely helps you to feel better.
Once you get more acquainted with the site, you can view the calendar to find all of the people that have their surgery scheduled on the same day as yours and you can contact them that way.
Best of luck to you and have fun on the forums!

Re: Very scared .. Kids and toddlers mentioned

Wanted to say welcome to the site.

I had my trip to the castle on March 2nd so just one week post op for me.

One thing that helped me out alot was I cooked some meals ahead and put in the freezer and then when my mom came to help for a few days I had her do a few more meals for me. That's been a huge help.

You will want to be able to rest so if you can find someone to watch the twins for a little bit each day that would be a big help. Or another idea is if they still take naps I would take one with them.

I've been taking at least one nap a day.

You have 4 precious children ~ the older kids and your DH will be a big help to you .

Sending you well wishes ~

I was worried to about the surgery but now that I'm on the other side I'm so very glad I did it and am on the road to feeling better!

Ask any questions you may have.

There is alot of information and wonderful ladies on this site~welcome!

Gentle hugs,

Re: Very scared .. Kids and toddlers mentioned

As hard as it is try not to worry too much...things do tend to work out....

I also have twins but mine are 9yrs old :-)

Is there anyone that could take the little ones for a few weeks such as a grandparent or aunt or uncle? If not ...someone that could come in and watch them while your older child and husband are gone for the day??

I know its hard to ask for help but I found that sometimes you just have to do it...

Not sure what type of hyst you are having but I know that with my TAH I wouldn't have been able to care for little ones for at least 3 weeks and I have a high pain tolerance and had a great recovery....

Hope it all works out and best wishes to you!

It sounds like you have been through the mill. I am glad you have found a doctor who is helping you. I would ask if and see if you can find more help. I know how hard it is to ask but you might be pleasantly surprised. I can tell you that being nervous about this is very normal. We all were. The hardest part is having to wait. I know it can be scary but I found that the more information I had, the less scared I was. Asking questions here is a really good way of answering them. It seems like someone here has the answer. I know that before my surgery I listened to a lot of music to try to relax and did relaxation exercises. It really helped. Sending lots of

I am having LAVH-BSO on March 22nd. I have 3 children, 14, 11 and 2. My DH is off on the days I will not be home and then Mom and Sis for 2 days. Our spring break is the next week and my older boys will be helping with the youngest. I really am getting quite anxious and most of it is if my older kids will be able to do enough to help. And I feel a little guilty asking them to give up part of their break to take care of me. I hope it will all work out. Can you get help from the older children?

Re: Very scared .. Kids and toddlers mentioned

Hi Girlies,
Although my kids are older (16 and 12) and are really self supportive, I did do a lot of preperation before hand... I too did the meals and froze them,... its really not that hard just make twice what you normally would and freeze half.... It helps that the oldest one can toss what ever in the microwave... and one thing that is simple but can be a godsend...Paper plates, paper towels, even plastic "silverware" takes a little off you.... I was lucky in my hubby was allowed to take 3 weeks off with me and did most of the cleaning, etc....
Do you have a close friend or neighbor that could help out with the little ones? Sometimes, even 2 would be great they could rotate so it isn't so much for just one person....
I am very independant, so the hardest thing for me to do was just ask for help.....
Also, try checking with your insurance to see if they would allow you a "home Health worker" They come in and help out w/ you, and your day to day needs....
Hope you do well, Let us know... hugs,
Kimmie

Re: Very scared .. Kids and toddlers mentioned

I work with young children, and I could not imagine caring for 2 toddlers so soon post-op. There is so much lifting, bending and running around. I would make it a priority to find some help when your hubby and older children aren't around. Ask friends, family, neighbors, church members, it can be so hard to ask, but sooooo worth it.

I had a hard time asking for help too, but I did, and I am overwhelmed with the response. My surgery is scheduled for May 17 and I've been busy planning for my kids (ages 10 and 5) and for my absence at work. I asked one friend if she could drive my kindergartener to school, she agreed to that AND took the day of my surgery off so she could watch my 5 year old in the morning and watch them both after school. I'm so glad I asked, one less thing to worry about!

I work for a non-profit and asked for volunteers to do my job in my absence, as of this morning I have 5 volunteers!!! I really didn't expect that. It goes to show, you just have to ask!

Wishing you the best of luck and I pray you have a speedy recovery!
