lots of bathroom trips?

Hi everyone..
I am 2 days post-op today-had LAVH (everything removed).....

I asked that my catheter be removed immediately after surgery and it was-I went to pee as soon as I was taken into my room and have done fine with going since the 1st time-but today I keep getting the "full bladder" sensation. I do go each time, but it just seems to me that Im getting this sensation more than usual.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

Yes, I had this too. I found that it wasn't really that I needed to go that badly, either, just my sensation was a little altered. It is getting better, but it's still not back to where I was before surgery. Just this last week I am sleeping through the night again instead of waking up at least twice to go pee.

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

YES! I'm 2.5 weeks post op and I still just tell everyone it feels like they took everything out and put my bladder back in first and set everything else on top of it!

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

Yep! Same here. Just before I was discharged from the hospital I did ask my doctor about that and she said it'd take a while to get things back to normal. I'm here 10 days post-op and still not quite normal.

I have noticed it's getting better but I still get up 2 or 3 times a night. I do wonder how long this will last.

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

Yes this happened to me too. I found myself going to the bathroom a lot. It turns out that my interstitial cystitis was flaring but it has calmed down. Check with your doctor about possible UTI. Very common after surgery. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

I have been saying ever since my catheter came out that it seems like I'm peeing twice as much as I take in! It's crazy! I am waking up 2-3 times a night as well and it's really, really inconvenient as my bathroom upstairs is under construction so I have to go downstairs to pee.
I know it has to get better though!

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

I had lavh/bso on march 5th and I agree with more coming out than going in. But why does it wait until I'm in bed. I so hate getting up about 3 times a night.

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

today this problem seems to have abated a little-I still feel a little pressure in there though, but this is only during the day time and I have been fine at night-not even waking up to go pee

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

I've also noticed my bladder feels full all the time. I use to never get up at night to go to the bathroom and after surgery I was up 4-5 times a night. Now it's only 2 times a night.

Re: lots of bathroom trips?

I am so glad to see this post! I also demanded my cath be taken out early and I feel like I have to pee ALL the time, yet very little comes out. I asked my nurse about it and her answer really helped me. She said that after a hysterectomy (especially with endometriosis) you literally have to learn how to pee again because of the "shock" to the bladder. It has been only 5 days now and things are already a lot better. The hardest thing for me is just to remember not to push.
