D&C Always sent to pathology?

I read on the ablation forum I as posting in that many people had recieved info back from their obgyn after their D&C tissues were sent to pathology.

Anyone know if this is typical? My doc didn't mention it to me or my husband?? Maybe only if there is cause to suspect pathology would find someting?

Re: D&C Always sent to pathology?

Hi Sookie-did you have a D&C before the ablation? In the US, by law, any tissue removed from someone in surgery must be sent to pathology. If you only had an ablation then no tissue was removed-hence no pathology. It's my understanding that an ablation is not performed without a diagnosis, how can you have a diagnosis without either an endometrial biopsy and/or a D&C? In your case was that done prior to the ablation? Contact your doc if you are not sure. Hope this helps. Lynne

Re: D&C Always sent to pathology?

Molly
Thanks for your reply. I thought that was the case....something along that lines, anyhow. And yes, I has a hysteroscopy amd D&C right before the EA.

I will ask my doc at the 2 wk post op if I don't hear anything. I guess untill then if I don't hear anything, all is well.

Thanks again!
