Feeling helpless

Hi All,
I am 17 days post op. I just started leaking urine. Great. I feel like I will never be myself again. I just tried to walk through Costco with my husband. After 45 minutes we had to leave. My legs feel weak. Cant stop crying today. I have a pain on my left side, but it is better today, it hurts in my lower abdominals when I go to the bathroom. I just want to crawl somewhere. I think I should be feeling better by now.
Surgery was March 3, radical hyster.

Re: Feeling helpless

It takes a long time to get your strength back. I was out today for awhile, just getting in and out of the car a few times and walking around a little bit just pooped me out. I am back home on the couch with a heating pad.. and I had my surgery the day after you did. I do still take a pain pill when I need one too... call your doc about the urine leakage.. they will probably want to know and might have some ideas & or meds for you. Take care and know that you are not alone...just know to take it slow and easy... so you can heal well...

Re: Feeling helpless

Hello...

I am so sorry you are experiencing all of this! Bless your heart!

Have you called your doctor to relay all of this? Are you on hormones? I too had a TAH (and both ovaries removed). I am on an estrogen patch. I told the doc before my surgery that I wanted one slapped on my rear in recovery -- she did it. :-). That may help with your emotions if you had your ovaries out.

As for the urine, I'm not sure what that could be, but it may be just that the bladder has not fully settled down from everything. Everything "down there" is still recovering from the shock of surgery. This was a MAJOR deal we did to ourselves! :-)

Also -- as far as how you're feeling -- I was 17 days post op on March 12 -- the day we celebrated my son's 16th b-day. We had family over. All I could manage for everyone was Little Caesar's pizza, a cake I ordered, and ice cream. I wasn't feeling "bad" -- but I just didn't have the energy to prepare a nice, special meal as I would have liked. What's more, by 8:30, I had to excuse myself and go lie down. I was getting tired and sore.

So, please give yourself some time. Try not to get discouraged. Your body has been through an incredible ordeal and is busy healing - it zaps your energy for sure.

I hope you feel better, sweetie. Praying for you!

HUGS!

Gwen

Re: Feeling helpless

I had surgery the same day as you LAVH. Don't be so hard on yourself, I am just starting to feel better not all of the time. I went to
Sam's Club with my husband last night and I was done within an hour, and I am a big shopper. I think energy level just takes time. Did you have a bladder repair? I would contact your doctor about the leakage. The fact the you shopped for 45 mins is a real plus!
