Pain with urination.

I am 2 weeks post-op today after having TAH and wondering if anyone else has had the problem of having a feeling of "cramping" when you finished going pee. I also have felt like I have a UTI and have been to the Dr. and had a lovely cath. to check for infection. A urinalysis showed nothing but still waiting for the culture. ( We live on a military base and because of Columbus Day Drs. are off today) I have an appt. with the Dr. who did my surgery tomorrow and also wondered about driving myself. I live about 7 miles from the base hospital. All in all I feel pretty good but still tired and grumpy. My tummy is still very sore and swollen a little. My DH has to return to work tomorrow after being home to tend to me since I've been home from the castle.
He will be able to drive me if you all think I should be driven. I don't know what to expect with recovery or how long it takes to start to feel half-way normal again. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Pain with urination.

Hi Lisa Jane, initial recovery period for this surgery is 6-8 weeks. This is the time when activities need to be very limited and exercise should consist mostly of frequent 's, with lots of rest, feet up!

As far as your bladder problem, many women experience problems because the bladder and uterus are so close together and the bladder doesn't take well to the jostling it receives during the surgery. Your bladder problem can be a result of a UTI, or it could be spasms, or it could just be normal healing. I'm glad that you have talked to your Dr. as he/she will be able to determine the cause and treat the problem if need be. Drinking lots of water, cranberry juice and non-carbonated beverages can also help.

As far as driving, some of the ladies have been cleared to drive as early as 2 weeks, others like myself, weren't allowed to drive for 6 weeks. Each Dr. is different on their restrictions. If your Dr. hasn't told you, I would suggest that you allow your DH to drive you tomorrow since he can be available to do that, and then put that on your list of questions for your Dr.

Best wishes and 's
