Set back by 3 more weeks and frustrated!

Hello! Yesterday I went for my 6 week post op appt. thinking I was going to get the green light for all around normal activity. Although, 2 weeks into my original recovery I had some heavy bleeding issues which resulted in another surgery to stop a bleeding blood vessel..I thought that my recovery would have only been set back by a week. But I was wrong and I was informed that I will have at least another 3 more weeks of recovery!! I was told that I still have a bunch of stitches inside from the repair and more granulated tissue (which is the 3rd time having granulated tissue). This recovery has been a nightmare and I am still having brown spotting and discharge as well..I am starting to feel like I am never going to be myself again..

I need some light at the end of the tunnel stories!!
TIA

I am still in the tunnel, so no help there, but I wanted to offer hugs and support. I, too have those feelings of, "When will I have my life back?". As rough and unfair as it is, try to get some rest and follow Dr's orders.

I'm still a ways to go with my recovery too but wanted to offer a gentle hug for you.
I commented on another thread earlier this morning that I was doing good and the spotting had all but stopped, I took a nap this morning and then my spotting started again.......... I go for another checkup monday.
Guess I'm still in the tunnel too but hang in there we will get there,
rest and enjoy being a princess for a while longer. another gentle hug

Keep on keeping on, Sandy. You'll get there. You wanted an encouraging story; here's mine.

Like you, I had persistent bleeding well into my "recovery" period. I was in hospital for 2 weeks after my emergency TAH, for various reasons, including blood clots and a bowel that just didn't want to resume its job. The day after I was discharged, I went back to the ER with really heavy bleeding. By the third trip to the ER in a week, the docs realized that silver nitrate wasn't going to do it, so I went back into the OR for vaginal cuff repair (stitches). Each doc and hospital visit reset the 6 week clock for most everything (including "nothing in the vagina"). I did well for about a week, had a good 4-week post op report and then started bleeding again three days later. Eventually got another repair stitch - didn't help - and went back to the OR for a third time. Reset the 6-week clock again - bedrest, no lifting, nothing in the vagina.

I had my official post-op exam on Feb 25 (my original surgery was Dec 8) and was cleared for takeoff (don't get crazy, use lots and lots of lubrication) FINALLY. That's a 12-week journey to the 6-week "all clear."

How am I now? Well, I've been back to work since the beginning of Feb, and my mind is clearing. Sex is as vigorous, enjoyable, and satisfying as ever (no lubrication necessary). I don't have that heavy end-of-day fatigue anymore, and any, erm, witchiness is about on par with who I was before the surgery. I've lost 20 lbs and 3 dress sizes since my surgery (2 weeks of "nothing by mouth" will do that, I guess) and kept it off. I have some clotting issues to manage over the next 6 months, and there's always the spectre of the cancer recurring, but as of my "release" appt yesterday (4 months in), I am in remission and fully healed from surgery.

My surgeon gave me a big hug goodbye and thanked me for "hanging in there with him." It took a while, but we got me well again.

Hang in there, Sandy. It'll happen.

Re: Set back by 3 more weeks and frustrated!

I just wanted to send some warm wishes and hugs. I unfortunately am still in the recovery part but a lot of this is due to other medical conditions I had pre surgery that are now acting up. I am sure that plenty of other sisters have great stories of recovery and having it get better. i know it will improve but for me this has been a slooooow journey that is still continuing.

Re: Set back by 3 more weeks and frustrated!

Sandy, I had a TAH saved both ovaries, here's my end of the tunnel story. I have been feeling a bit fatigued ever since surgery, been back to work for four weeks now. I am in pain by the end of the week, but I'm on my feet for a full 40hrs. I am also lifting heavy objects at work. When I get home I'm starting to look forward to making dinner, heck I even cleaned the house thoroughly the other day. Now to better things, my libido is off the charts. I feel like I'm 18 again, sex is great again. I am having more energy increases every day, I'm starting to lose weight, and the emotional stuff is decreasing. I'm actually looking forward to being a more healthier me. Healing does take time and for me it's been a hell of a ride, but thank God that I have made it through.
