BSO~ Removal of both ovaries and fallopian tubes~Surgical menopause.
Hello evry 1
I have been diagnosed with endometriosis, and have had 4 abdominal Laps (which included 2 D&C's, Removal of 2 ovarian endometriomas, Tubal ligation, and NOVASURE ablation)
My last Lap was Feb 17, 2010. Went without complication, and i was home that afternoon.
1 week post-op I started feeling pain had ultrasound and found endometrioma and I was given hormones..I had ultrasound and CT Scan weekly.
Somehow afta all of this I now have right ovarian endometrioma, endometrioma in left falllopian tube, and a corpus luteum cyst on the left ovary. The only thing that appeared normal was the ablation.
My doc has now decided that removing the ovaries and fallopian tubes(leaving the uterus intact) was the only option left.
I am 29 yrs old ~1 child 5yrs old ~ Have taken birth control (9 different Pills, patches, and nuva ring) and taken shots of Lupron Depot. I have had continuous treatment for the past 4 yrs..
I AM NOT AFRAID OF SURGERY. JUST MENOPAUSE. NOT SURE WHAT TO EXPECT AND MY DOC TOLD ME THAT I CAN'T HAVE HORMONES FOR 6 MOS..
Thanx 4 reading

Re: BSO~ Removal of both ovaries and fallopian tubes~Surgical menopause.
I am so sorry you are facing yet another surgery! It is never fun to have repeated surgeries, especially for the same condition!
Have any of your doctors been an endometriosis specialist? If not, you might want to consider consulting with one. For one, the more skilled your surgeon with regard to endometriosis, the different opportunities you can have for dealing with surgical menopause. A surgeon is skilled with excision of endometriosis could possibly remove enough endometriosis to even allow you to use HRT soon after your BSO.
If you do have to avoid HRT for 6 months following your surgery, talk to your doctor about any options available to help minimize the surgical menopause symptoms and protect your bones and heart health. Some women who cannot use HRT for one reason or another find that an anti-depressant can help with surgical menopause symptoms. You may also need to take extra calcium and other supplements.
I wish you all the best for the upcoming surgery and hope that it is completely successful for you! in there!
