How long should I expect to stay at the castle

Hi,
My TAH is scheduled for May 3rd. I'm wondering if anyone know how long I can expect to stay in the hospital

Hospital stays vary. It seems the average stay around here for a woman who has a TAH is about 2 - 4 days. I had a TVH and like many of us TVH gals, I only stayed overnight. Be sure to add this to your list of questions for your doctor so you'll have a better idea of what to expect.

I too was scheduled for a TAH and was told 2 days but I am sure that varies and depends on how you are feeling. I was told that as soon I could pee on my own, they generally send you home. But again, depends on the hospital and the area you live in. I would ask your dr at the pre-op appointment.

Re: How long should I expect to stay at the castle

They wouldn't give me a time OR a length of stay estimate until my pre-op meeting.

For me it ended up being a week cuz I have a genetic heart thing going on too, and they had given me an "estimated" surgery time but on the actual pre-op meeting day they changed it from 10am to 8am so I think the hard scheduling is done pretty close to the action as things always change up until then I guess.

The average seems to be around 3 days tho from what I can see... course I didn't know I'd be a whole week until AFTER my DH booked off the whole week so he'll be home playing computer games probably because I won't even be there! I hope I don't need much help the second week because he won't be there by then!

The hospitals don't seem to realize how hard it is for people to book time off to take care of us it seems to me! Or give enough info in advance either. It's hard to get it all worked out, I know that. And it's worse if you've got relatives coming in from out of state to care of kids and what not too (not that I do but I read things) It's tricky tho.

Re: How long should I expect to stay at the castle

I was there 3 days but I begged the Dr. To let me go home. I had to pee first and have a bowel movement. Once I had the bowel movement they let me clear liquids. I had mine the 29th and I should have just stayed because I am almost 2 weeks post op and still having problems with bowel movement and UTI. Had one bowel movement since last Thursday when I came home. They have me on a bunch of meds but its not working and very painful. Just don't rush it I thought I could heal faster at home and in a way I felt more comfortable at home but I wish I would have just stayed.

Re: How long should I expect to stay at the castle

Hi, I was told to expect to be in for 5 days. If that is the case, I am not going to argue with them as I will use that time to try and rest as much as possible.

I was told that the earliest I could possibly go home was on day 4 but to be prepared to possibly be there another day.

Re: How long should I expect to stay at the castle

I was told it would be 2-3 days or maybe a day longer depending on how I was doing. Guess it will be a wait and see game I am really hoping to come home on day 2 as my Bday is day 3 and I don't want to be in the hospital for that!!
