12 weeks post op - Where is all this gas coming from?

I am having more gas than I can ever remember having in my entire life since this surgery. It is especially bad in the evenings. Since I can't seem to pass it quietly, I'm thankful it doesn't seem to happen at work. Where is it coming from? I'm not even eating things that should make me gassy. I don't get it and I don't know how to get rid of it. Anyone?

I think it can still take a while for our GI tract to recover maybe try adjusting your diet....maybe it's something that didn't cause you problems before surgery...dairy?..Are you taking Gas X? I'm almost 5 weeks post op and quit taking it a few weeks ago....i do still notice more gas than before so i'm still trying to find a good balance of fruits and veggies/water to stay regular. Hang in there!

That's the strange thing. I've tried to rule foods out, but it doesn't make any difference. I didn't eat much dairy (just ice cream) before surgery and haven't since, so I can rule out that one. I stopped taking Gas X about 6-7 weeks ago. I was trying to decide if it would help or make it worse. It's driving me crazy.

Oh my gosh, I went through the same thing as you around the same time. I just hit 6 months post op this week
Are you having regular bowel movements? My GI system finally started to get back to normal around 4 1/2 months post op. I don't have advice because nothing seemed to help me (i.e. gas x) except time. Just thought I would let you know that I went through the same thing.

Thanks october1. I've never been "regular." For me, I'm lucky if I go 3-4 times a week, but I've been that way forever. I'm not quite 3 months, so I guess I'll see what happens.

Hang in there sweetie. Seems like getting back to "normal" with this surgery take an awfully long time. I just keep saying that this is my "new normal".

Re: 12 weeks post op - Where is all this gas coming from?

My body is slow to get back on tract with the BM issues too. I've always been not as regular as most people but it's the norm for me so I don't worry.
I have added one fiber metamucil pill to my diet daily and that seems to help some but I don't seem anywhere near what was normal for me preop and I"m almost 6 weeks.

I don't think it's foods for me either , I think my body is still adjusting to the new me. Hang in there , we will get there, our bodies like to take it slow, I guess.

On an side note when I was trying to figure out where my pelvic pain was coming from pre surgery ~ I had one Gyno lady doctor tell me my problem was my colon and that I wasn't having a BM everyday!
I'm so glad I didn't listen to her ! My problem was cysts in my ovaries! okay off rant sorry back on course.
