Unhappy - PMS five years out PMS five years out

I had my hysterectomy five years ago...yep five years ago. I kept both ovaries and wow it has really hit me hard lately. I forget that you can still PMS without the benefit of a period for relief. I have hot flashes on an off but really sore tatas and I swear if someone looks at me wrong I think I might bite off their head! Just wanted someone out there to say Yeah I feel the same way cause Im fifty and thought PMS was long gone.

Re: PMS five years out

Well if it helps, I am almost 10 years post hysterectomy and today and I am dealing with sore and swollen breasts, one of my typical PMS issues!

As long as you have functioning ovaries, you can have PMS!

Re: PMS five years out

i am almost 5 years out. and believe me i know a thing or 2 about sore breast. mine even get bigger!!! it hurts to even walk. but i changed doctors about 2 years ago. go get your hormone levels checked!!! i cant say that loud enough! you decide what to do about your levels
but it is also nice to know that there is something wrong with you and not in your head. i have been on natural hrt for almost 2 years i am tons better then when i first started but i still have a ways to go. PLEASE go get your hormones tested!!!!

Re: PMS five years out

Thanks for the advice. I have an appointment tomorrow. I'd also like to try estroven once the bloodwork is all done. Hopefully it will help. My hormones feel worse now than before my hysterectomy. Keep you posted. Thanks

Re: PMS five years out

Having a down day today, 4 year post op and still suffering PMS. Though it was initally better after op, but think that was more to do with not having cramps and heavy bleeding.. Boobs still get sore.

My other half seems to have only just realised, he commented recently "you still get sore boobs every month don't you" duh! Why do you think I turn into hissing she cat when you go anywhere near them!!!! Gotta love em even if they are a bit slow.

Oh the joys of being a woman!

Re: PMS five years out

beth1205 makes a good suggestion. Get your hormones checked--see your doc. You don't need to suffer like this. I did it for 5 or 6 years telling my docs I didn't have a problem. PMS is normal! HA! You don't have to suffer. Get some HRT. Could it be that if your ovaries worked right you wouldn't have needed a hyster? Imbalance can cause fibroids. Who knows what all imbalanced hormones can cause.

Hope you find relief soon.

Re: PMS five years out

You need to find out what is causing your problems and take appropriate action. Sounds easy but it can be tough.

There is no such thing as 'natural HRT.' They are all derived from something and made in a lab. Some are the same as our own hormones (bioidentical) but they are not 'natural.' I use Femring. It's not bioidentical, which seems to be the popular idea today. I use oral progesterone, the popular idea is cream. What I'm saying is you need to find what YOU need. It may take some experimenting. Talk to your doc. It can also be useful to talk to a compounding pharmacist, they are very knowledgeable and may be able to give you some advice.

For some women it's simple. They are given a Rx and it works great for them. Others, like me, have a little more trouble getting things right. Who knows, you may only need a little progesterone cream for a short time. You won't be the first that worked for. But you don't need to suffer. There are many things that can help you. You just need to start the process and see what happens.
