WOW!!!!! First Hot Flash

I had my first hot flush! WOW aren't they unpleasant! AND NO PRIOR WARNING WHATSOEVER.... One minute I was standing there just fine and then WHAM!!

I was standing up in a meeting in our lawyer's office because I was handing him some money for the searches that he has to do against the new house we are buying when it hit me. :burning: It started at the back of my knees and then shot upwards - it was all over in a couple of minutes (it felt like hours) but I was soaked all over - even the top of my head - and shaking. LOL, I had to squelch home because even my socks were soaked through. When people talked about being saturated I can see now that they aren't exagerating at all! My trousers, my top and all my undies were drenched - even my jacket was damp across my shoulders and in the small of my back. When it was over I was left freezing cold and very shaken. Is this typical? My lawyer thought I was having a heart attack and wanted to phone for emergency services!!!! He sat me down and got me a brandy and then told me that I had looked like I was about to explode :explode: and this is only the second time I have ever met him! Luckily his wife had a hard time of it so he knew what it was quicker than I did.

I hope that I don't get too many of them - but at least I know what to expect now! I am being positive though - I look on it as a sign that the HRT is leaving my system and hopefully these awful HRT side affects will soon fade as well. I am happy to
trade high BP, depression, bloating, uncontrollable weight gain and headaches for hot flushes - no matter how uncomfortable.

My swollen fingers seem to be going down a bit.

Does anyone have any recommendation on this Black Kokosh supplement - I have read all the info on it, but would love to hear from someone who has actually taken it?

hot flushes

Hi Sarah

Have just read your description of your first hot flush - I know how you feel! I started getting them when I was on Zoladex injections prior to my TAH last month. They are overwhelming aren`t they? I couldn`t believe that the back of my knees and inside my elbows could sweat!

I have been trying to eat more soya and linseed - both supposed to help in this area. I thought I had found slight relief before my op but, of course, I couldn`t have my daily dose when in hospital and when I got home I was as bad as ever. I`ve now been eating it again for about 3 weeks and I can see a slight improvement in the daytime flushes - not so intense and I don`t think so many (but how can you say how many you would have anyway?) Think the night sweats are a bit better too. (Think they`re the worst as they deprive you of much needed sleep)

If you`re interested in trying this, e-mail me and I`ll give you the titles of a couple of books that I`ve found helpful.

Funny - you`re not that far away - I live in Leeds!

WOW!!!!! First Hot Flash

Hi Sarah,

I wasn't able to do HRT initially because of endometriosis and pathology concerns after my hysterectomy. My DR (a woman) recommended Remifemin, which is a black cohosh extract tablet that you take twice a day. She states that she recommends it for anyone who can't take HRT. You can buy it OTC at Wal-mart. The information on the package states that it takes about 4 weeks to achieve full effect. However, I felt better right away. I should tell you though my hot flashes were not as extreme as the one you experienced. Give it a try and good luck!

what a wonderful country:)

Just got to say, what a wonderful place the UK is, where your lawyer (solicitor?) offers you a brandy and concern, instead of helping you out the door so you can't say that, whatever is happening to you happened on his premises BTW, I have a brother/sister-in-law and their children who live in the north/west of London And, to all the lawyers out there, no offence- my sister, who is my dearest friend on this earth, is an
assistant federal defender, so we regularly share the lawyer jokes

Great Stuff!

I am 1 year post op, and i took hormones for the first 2 months then quit.I fell into a depression i didn't even realize, and the HOT FLASHES about killed me.I started taking black cohosh, a good womans supplement vitamin, mood food, yohimbe for women, and using a progestrin cream and now i feel like a new woman. Hot Flashes are gone, and my mood has done a 200% improvement.DH loves it, Son hates it, he can't get on my nerves to get his way anymore
