For those facing surgery for endo
Just wanted to emphasize how important it is for your doctor to EXCISE the endometriosis instead of just lasering it, heat ablating it, etc. Just had surgery where endo was found in same areas where it had been ablated less than 2 years ago and dr had sworn it was "all taken care of" back then. This time I made doctor commit to only excising it, with clean margins. (Why the drs still believe the other methods will remove it, I just don't understand.)

Suprising a doctor would say got it all! What he should have said is "We got it all for now". Remember, it's not if it will return but When...After the final return I have decided enough is enough. Last return in 2009 was so very painful I have finally decided to have a TAH. Really nervous...but...ready for it!!

Re: For those facing surgery for endo
Actually, an endometriosis specialist can be pretty sure s/he got it all! In fact, endometriosis specialists have about an 85% success rate.
One way they do this is to strip the peritoneum. They also use various excision methods that are more able to remove the endometriosis without inadvertently leaving some behind. Additionally, they are often able to remove endometriosis from areas where many other surgeons cannot.
My own specialist believes he got all of my endometriosis during my last surgery. My specialist does not anticipate that I will ever have issues with endometriosis again and will monitor me for several years. I am a bit over two years out from that surgery and so far so good!
Granted, we all know there is a chance, but for those of us who have found exceptionally skilled surgeons, we have upped our chances of complete endometriosis relief!

Re: For those facing surgery for endo
Hi All,
I am hoping that I have found one of the few skilled surgeons because I decided to keep at least one ovary. Good luck to everyone.
