positive flow-reduction medication story
Hi ladies - I just wanted to share a quick positive story about the flow-reduction medication that I have been on pre-op: Cyklokapron (Tranexamic aid).
I will be having LSH surgery on May 11. In July of last year I was diagnosed with fibroids and severe anaemia, with periods that lasted about 21 days out of each month, and a scary amount of blood loss/clots in the first week. I was told that the fibroids prevented my uterus from properly contracting to "end" my period. I missed work at the beginning of each cycle, unable to leave the house due to my intense desire not to be more than 20 feet from a bathroom (or risk the horror of "leakage" in public!), fainting, in agony, etc......most of you know what I'm talkin' about unfortunately.
I was initially prescribed Novomedrone (medroxyprogesterone) and had terrible side effects (horrible mood swings, hair falling out in clumps, immediate weight gain....). For other reasons I switched doctors and my current doctor prescribed Cyklokapron. I have no side effects and my periods are almost bearable except for Day 2/3 which has always been the worst. But aside from those two days, I have significantly less flow and my period is ending DAYS earlier! I also just found out that I am no longer anaemic....and feeling much stronger heading into surgery.
Another great thing about this medication is that you only take it during the heaviest flow.
Just something that some of you might want to ask your doctors about. I know everyone is different and maybe this wouldn't work for everyone as well as it worked for me. I didn't notice a huge difference the first month, but the three months since have been such a relief and undoubtedly contributed to my haemoglobin improvement.
Wishing everyone the very, very best.
