Prolapsed Uterus

Hello Sisters,

I am 42 with one child. Had a very difficult delivery in which forceps were used. I am sure this is the cause of the prolapse. I have called for an appointment to schedule the surgery and am wondering what to expect. I don't have a date and I do not know what kind of surgery will be used as I am enemployed and will be using the county. I feel as if I will not have much say so ::sigh::

The uterus is about 1/2 way out of the vagina.
the last doc say that because the vaginal opening was small they probably wouldn't remove it vaginally.

Which surgical method recovers the fastest?

I have so many questions but I am really at a lost right now and need to gather my thoughts.

Teb
I don't have the answers because I haven't yet had my surgery.
Just wanted to wish you all the best and hope you don't have to wait too long to have your problems looked after.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Re: Prolapsed Uterus

I also have one child and same type of delivery prolonged pushing resulting in use of forceps and also 4th degree tear, which i was told most likely caused my prolapse of uterus. I am 35 y/o, my DD is 6 y/o and have been living with this situation for 3 years and decided I cannot stand the pain and problems (bladder) it caused, interfered with alot of things. I am 5 weeks post op , I had vaginal hyster(uterus and cervix removed) along with an Uterasacral ligament suspension, repairs to my tears i had during delivery. The first two weeks were slow moving for me lots of ups and downs, by the forth week i feel almost normal. I can tell once the healing is done, I'm going to be feeling much better than before. I do not know the recovery with different types of surgery, just that everyone is different in how they heal. I know i thought being fit and in my thirties , I would be back to normal in a week, but not the case at all!! Anyways I hope everything goes well with your appointment , I know for me waiting for the surgery was exciting( to finally get that bothersome uterus out!!!), but also very nervous. In the end I know i made the right choice, let me know what type of surgery. Hope this kinda helped, I'm sure more will reply with other types of surgery

Re: Prolapsed Uterus

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your problems. I'm 40 and had two children. I had a prolapsed uterus, bowel and bladder. I had a sacrospinous fixation for the prolapsed uterus (hitching up of the uterus). The result and recovery time is great but had some issues with nerve damage. Don't know if this helps and I can't comment on the hysterectomy side of things, I hope your appointment goes well.

Re: Prolapsed Uterus

Uterine prolapse was the reason for my hysterectomy 11 years ago. My uterus had dropped to within an inch of the vaginal opening. All this damage due to aggressive forceps delivery by young and inexperienced doctor. I also had bladder suspension and cystocele repair at the same time.

I had my hysterectomy done vaginally. Don't understand why your dr says not the preferred method. I had an abdominal incision to do bladder lift though (in addition to TVH).

I think if you can avoid the abdominal incision and have it done vaginally, it would repair/recover faster. Always more prolonged delivery when abdominal incision done.
