Pulling sensation when urinating
I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I had a TAH along with removal of ovaries, lymphnodes, I had stage 1B2 cervical cancer. So I went through having chemoradiation treatments before I had the hysterectomy. I have been noticing a "pulling sensation" when I urinate. Especially towards the end. It's not really that painful...just uncomfortable. Has anyone else felt this and is it normal?

Re: Pulling sensation when urinating
I have that feeling.. it's like a pressure feeling just as the bladder empties... Is that how it feels for you?
I have had bladder infections and then I got a yeast infection due to the antibiotics. I don't know if that has anything to do with mine but other girls have had similar problems with emptying their bladder...
This is an old forum post but can be really related to

Search pain or pressure emptying bladder! It should help you get some more insight on it

Thanks Tygger,
That is exactly how it feels...I will check out the link.
Thanks for your response. Have you bladder infections been since your hysterectomy? I don't have any burning sensations or other discomfort so I am assuming that this is just maybe pain from the surgery not an infection.

Re: Pulling sensation when urinating
Hi Lisa,
I also have a twinge-y feeling in my bladder- especially when I am finishing. I had a large cyst which was putting pressure on my bladder so I am thinking it may be because my bladder is settling back into place. It does seem to be less now than before. I make sure I drink a lot of water and go to the washroom as often as I need to. I go for my follow up next week and will mention it to the surgeon then but I think it's quite a common thing.
Hope the feeling goes away soon....
PS We had our surgery the same day...how are you doing?

Re: Pulling sensation when urinating
You're welcome, Lisa
Yes, my bladder infections have been since the hysterectomy.. I didn't get them before this. I didn't experience any burning sensations either... I found out because of tummy pain/pressure that was bringing me off the toilet as my bladder emptied...
Nor did I get yeast infections, only when I was way younger did I have a couple.. and as soon as I got it I remembered that pain and discomfort right away!
They say if your bladder is bruised you could feel that pressure. I believe the bladder being handled more with a TAH is a huge cause. Dr and DH talked about it and they said your bladder is like a peach.. delicate and gentle, and when handled or squeezed it will and can bruise. Made a lot of sense to me

Re: Pulling sensation when urinating
Hi I have had this same feeling (had a TAH on April 8th) , at my 2 wk post-op appt my doc asked about my bladder because it was giving my some issues and when I told him about the pain he said if the pain is a pulling type of sensation that it is likely due to the bladder rubbing/tugging on some of the stitchesand it'll get better with time . He tested me for a bladder infection (it was neg).
Hope that helps. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Lisa I've had the same thing too, but now it seems to have gone away. I think it's only at the beginning and eventually fades.
Take care,
Amy

Re: Pulling sensation when urinating
Thanks Ladies....I have a follow up appointment on the 7th so I will be sure to mention it.
Canteach....I am doing pretty well....I am taking less and less pain medication...took one ibuprofen 800mg today...and I am getting faster at things...that is the only way I can describe it...I can get out of chairs, bed etc, faster!
2 days ago I felt like I was ready to go back to work 1/2 days and then I read that now is the time that our stitches will start disolving and that you can have more discomfort from this....so I might just wait till after my appointment.
How are you doing...tomorrow is our 3 week anniversary!!!
Yippee!
